Description of 1971 Volkswagen Squareback

You are looking at a beautifully restored 1971 Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback (Variant) that recently joined my collection. A few new acquisitions in the past couple of weeks require I sell something and I am regrettably offering this wonderful car to a new owner. History: This was a California car. titled and registered from new until about 10 years ago when the owner moved to the mid-west and sold it to a collector. It was restored by that collector a few years ago after years in dry/heated storage (it was never re-titled) and only taken out a few times a year to car shows. I purchased it with the original California title. I have since registered and titled the car in Virginia as an antique. The restoration included a professional repaint of the original orange color done in a nearly flawless (and expensive) thick Sikkens brand auto lacquer. The photos will attest to the beautiful condition throughout. The entire original pan underneath still has most of the factory undercoating and is rust-free. Find another VW with the original pans! The car has no scratches. no dents and no imperfections. Rubber seals around the windows and doors were all replaced. The interior. seats. carpet. rear deck mat. headliner. door panels etc are all immaculate. There is one small (1 inch) area where there's a rub mark on the upper corner of the drivers seat where the seat belt crosses. There is an under dash tray installed for storage. The car came from the factory without a radio and has never had one. though I did install a new period correct antenna last week in preparation for adding a stereo this spring (antenna not shown in photos). All gauges work except for the odometer. which stopped recently (speedo functions accurately) and the clock. The bumpers have very minor flaws and I'd rate them an 8 out of 10. I've added a new horn and while there is power at the horn connection there's no sound- probably a ground wire that I haven't sorted yet. That's about it for what the car needs to be perfect. All glass is excellent. The motor was rebuilt at approximately 85. 00 miles (from prior owner) and the 4-speed transmission and clutch was rebuilt at restoration (less than 1. 00 miles since rebuild) and operates perfectly. The engine starts and runs like new with the original fuel injection intact and operating as it should. Believe it or not- no oil leaks anywhere. even the usual stuff I've had with every other VW that I've owned. An oil filter has been added to the traditional filter-less system and the oil (zinc added Valvoline 20/50 racing oil for added protection) was just changed two weeks ago. I acquired a newly restored Squareback wood roof rack last month. This Squareback was just gone through this month by a top area Porsche/VW mechanic who called it one of the nicest Type 3's he's ever seen. We replaced the original factory shocks with new KYB shocks all around. We added a new rear dual exhaust factory correct muffler (not shown in the photos). a new steering damper and new front brakes (new pads. calipers rebuilt). The entire front end was tightened up (steering box. control arms etc). The car runs true and straight down the road. Receipts for all this work are in the car. This Squareback is riding on nearly new Empi/Porsche style riviera polished 15" wheels and nearly new 15" Continental brand radials. Can be shown locally by appointment. Feel free to bring your mechanic or I'll be happy to put you in touch with mine. This will be an excellent addition to any VW enthusiasts collection. a very rare car. especially on the east coast.
