Description of 1980 Alfa Romeo Spider

History on 1980 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 (European) It is rare to find an Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider (European Specd) in the States with the originality. quality. low milage and performance of this Alfa. They were only sold in Europe and Australia and had to be brought to the United States by individuals bringing then through customs. You may find some late Series 2. or 2A. (some reference the models from 1975-1982 a Series 2A) that have been cloned as Spider 2000. but they are just that. a clone. a copy of an original. This Alfa was manufactured on Christmas Eve 1979 and subsequently sold to a lady in Frankfurt. Germany in 1980. Alfa Romeo in Italy would not tell me if this Alfa was considered a '79 or '80. Their comment was "no difference" in the models. I titled it as an '80. nbsp; She then brought it to the states (Texas and then California) where it had to pass the emission tests. It was equipped with an exhaust pump and passed emission standards. (Documented) The pump has been removed and is no longer needed in most states. Documentation on the Spider is very detailed. Since arriving in the States. virtually every item purchased and all service performed has documentation. The Euro Spider was repainted in original color (Rosso Red). It found its way to an Alfisti in Motor City. I purchased the car in July of 2006 and have driven it less than 900 miles since. It now has 65. 56 on the speedometer that was receently changed out to a Euro kM speedometer that reads 21. 12 kM documented miles. The old one goes with the car. Nearly every Sunday it finds its way on a 5 mile trip. I know there are other European Spider 2000s in the States. but I have only seen one that is original and was for sale. This car is unique; you might say the best of all Spiders. some of S1. a lot of S2 and a little of S2A all put in one car. You can really feel the difference in the response of the 148 H. P (Gross) and 128 hp (net) vs US stock Spiders 111 hp (net). That is 15% more horse power and almost equal that in torque difference. Moreover. the weight of the Euro 2000 is 163 lbs lighter than the US Spider. That is a significant 18% weight to power ratio advantage for the Euro Spider over the US Spider. This Alfa is near ORIGINAL. not rebuilt or modified. just freshened. I have been refurishing. maintaining and coddling Alfas for decades. This is my most cherished of them all. I have medical conditions that have greatly restrict my activities. I could let them sit in the environmently contolled garage . but I would rather see them go to someone with the excitement. desire and ability to maintain them for years to come. So. the time has come to depart with them. Let me know if you need further information. videos or photos. so. just email me via eBay and I will gladly try to accommodate. Here is the ad listed on ebay and the Alfa Bulletin Board 9 years ago. Vehicle Description No nicer collectible Series 2 available on e bay! Runs and drives as new. Shifts perfectly in all gears.
