1985 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV-6 Gran Turismo Veloce

Up for auction is for my 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6. Photos are recent, taken in natural daylight using no filters, after a basic wash and vacuum (no detailing or waxing) to best show the true condition of the car. Please view them at full size to see any flaws noted. The GTV6 has a cult following and is widely considered to be a rare and rising-value exotic. Only 4,694 were imported to the US; this is one of 722 from 1985. The GTV6 is considered a "little-brother Ferrari" featuring Giugiaro exterior styling and a Busso motor that is one of the best sounding V6s ever built. This one exhales through an Ansa exhaust. This vehicle has spent its life in the dry inland western climates of Modesto, CA (1985-1995), Reno, NV (1995-2007), and Las Vegas (2007-present), so there are no rust issues. This is my second Alfa Romeo (my previous was a 1969 Berlina), and I have owned and garaged it since late 2007. I have a photocopy of a past Nevada DMV title that indicates 125k as "Actual Mileage" in 1995, indicating an odometer rollover. The odometer has always worked under my ownership; it read 32,314 at my 2007 title inspection, andcurrently reads 45xxx,so I've driven the car about 13,000 miles.
I am a lifelong car enthusiast and my Alfa is in what I would call a "solid driver." Study the photos at full size and you will see various door dings, a golf-ball sized dent in the fender to the front of the passenger door, paint crazing on the passenger door and front fender, and various areas of fade-through. Call it patina if you like. The paint appears shinier and smoother is some places than others, though there have been no accidents under my care, the CarFax doesn't indicate any, and there is no evidence of any. Over my ten years of stewardship of this GTV6, it appears to be a survivor in unmolested condition. What you see is what you get.
I regularly drive this Alfa on 100-mile weekend day trips (Mt. Charleston, Boulder City, etc), and have driven it from Las Vegas to California's Best of France & Italy show for a 4-day, 800-mile weekender. It starts first-crank even after sitting for a week or three, though in warmer (95+ degree) weather it takes a few cranks as it always has for me.
Both power mirrors work. The power windows work but are sloooow, with the driver's side being the slowest and usually needing a little help on the way down, especially in cold weather. The sealed factory window emergency hand crank is in the glovebox, but I've never used it. The manual rear quarter windows work fine. From what I can see, the interior is original except the radio (which I installed) which has an "80s period look" but is actually a modern unit with AUX input and pre-wiring for amps. I also installed new rear speakers in existing panel holes. Two dash cracks are present, one from each HVAC vent pod to the windscreen. The headliner is sagging at the rear, where the "attachment buttons" are not attached (see photo). The speedometer and tachometer mechanisms both work, but suffer the typical "bent needle tip" syndrome.
The plastic radiator pressure tank was replaced recently with an NOS piece. I generally top off the 20/50 oil and the brake fluid each time I drive. Fans know that GTV6 circuit-board taillights are quirky and problematic; that mostly means my passenger side rear turn signal often doesn't work, sometimes does. For what it's worth, I do have an extra used circuit board for this side that I will include,. The factory AC works very well (it froze us out on the drive to Woodley Park), though it has a very slow R-12 seepage that requires recharging every few years, so by the time summer hits you'll need to do as it hasn't been done since 2011 and I noticed some decreased efficiency this past summer.
The wheels are 15" models wearing almost full-tread Michelin tires filled with nitrogen. I also have the set of 5 factory original metric wheels; the winning bidder can have them but they must leave my garage the same day as the car or they will be sold separately. No exceptions. Note that auto shippers will not ship with items in the cabin and the wheels will not fit in the trunk.
A gentle right hand means the 1-2-3-4-5-4-3 shifts are smooth, quick, and easy. Typical of old Alfas, downshifting 3-2 is less so, but can be done without grind, with a gentle hand. This is a late-1985 model, so the factory gearshift linkage "improvements" are present, but it ain't no Miata. Overall, my GTV6 is a fun and head turning driver that I greatly enjoy.
This Alfa must pass a tailpipe sniffer emissions test annually in Clark County, NV. It most recently passed this test 08/28/17. I have all receipts from my ownership as well as other repair and maintenance receipts dating back to 12/1987. These include work done at Kruse-Lucas Imports (Modesto), Kansas Avenue Imported Car Service (Modesto), Barber's Alfa Romeo & Ferrari Shop (Sacramento) and Italy Service (Las Vegas). I also have a letter on the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department (Modesto) that indicates this Alfa Romeo was originally used for surveillance work for 10 years from new, until it was sold into private ownership, hence the dark window tint. Included is a photocopied shop manual in a 3-ring binder.
The question always arises: Can I drive the car home? The only time it stranded me was about 10 miles from home (failed fuel system main relay), but this is still a 32 year old car. I would drive it home, but I'm a classic car guy with a cell phone, a AAA card and a sense of adventure. The choice (and the risk) is yours.

• new timing belt (2008, about 13k miles ago)• major service including mechanical timing belt tensioner conversion (1993)
