1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio / VIN# ZARBA5568H1052634 Calling All Alfisti! Adult Driven. Fanatically Maintained Survivor. Gorgeous Unrestored Original. Rare Top-of-the-Line 'Quadrifoglio' Model! Amazing Curb Appeal. Runs Perfectly. We are offering this sensational Spider Quadrifoglio for its adoring owner. an enthusiastic AROC and PCA member. who has reluctantly decided that it’s time to let another enthusiast drive his toy home. It has been slavishly maintained since new and its careful miles are evident in the amazingly unworn original condition of the interior. exterior and the drivetrain. OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL CONDITION: This is the sort of car that enthusiasts and collectors drool over. This is the original factory paint finish. which is in exquisite shape for its age. But it’s the clean. unworn interior. and the immaculate detailing. that really sets the hook. It’s just a gorgeous car. in superior condition. and it drives as nice as it looks. There are some small touch-ups here and there on the paint. but they don't detract. and one has to look to find them. We would gladly accept these small imperfections on an original paint job over most re-sprays – It just looks ‘right’. The elegant twin coach stripes (one red. one blue) are intact and excellent – an original detail that is very tough to reproduce correctly on a re-painted Quadrifoglio. The wheels (unique to this model in ‘87) are lovely looking and have no curb rash. One wheel has a very shallow bend. barely visible and with no detriment to ride or handling (see close-up photo on extra photo link). They’re fitted with four Pirelli tires. which look new with no perceptible wear. EVERYTHING WORKS! The areas that usually betray casual ownership and hard driving are exceptionally nice on this car. and are all factory original. except for the convertible top which is a high quality replacement in new condition. There is an aftermarket hardtop sold with the car (not the factory one). The original top “boot” cover comes with the car. It was not shown in photos only because it was stashed away in a box in the garage. The beautiful carpets with colorful embroidered Alfa Romeo emblems. the leather-wrapped steering wheel. the gear lever. buttons and controls. etc…these things just don’t look over twenty-five years old – One peek at all the photos will show this. The vivid red carpets show none of the typical UV sun damage or fading. The leather seats look barely broken-in; no splits. cracks. or broken stitching. Instrument panel is crisp and clear. All of the glass. including the windshield with Alfa logo. and all of the weather-stripping. is original and beautiful. Nothing is broken or cracked (amazing on these cars). Every light and gauge works. Air con blows cold (just serviced for this sale. because the owner wanted everything to be 100%!) Even the clock keeps perfect time! The dash is original and un-cracked (not one of those aftermarket plastic dash caps that gets glued on). The soft top fits tightly and perfectly and has a crystal-clear window (along with the special cloth that Alfa provided with the Quadrifoglios to keep it from scratching when folded). The top bows and buckles are perfect (always check these on a Spider!). Overall. the interior is luxurious. very comfortable. and extremely impressive for its age. The story is similar inside the trunk: Clean paint and perfect weather-stripping. more immaculate looking red carpet. a rust-free spare tire well. and the original Pirelli P6 spare. on a fifth alloy wheel (which was a nice touch that Alfa Romeo always did on their cars). MECHANICALLY EXCELLENT: Under the hood. everything is clean and fresh looking. The braided fuel system hoses were all replaced last year and still look fresh. The master cylinders for the brakes and clutch look new. as do the reservoirs. The under-hood stickers are exactly where they were placed at the Pininfarina factory. and they look clean and new. Paint is shiny and polished under the hood. Fluids look fresh and are topped-up. The owner swears it leaks not a drop of oil on his garage floor! The chassis is clean and rust free by any sane definition. There is only normal surface oxidation on components or bare steel. There is no structural rust. rust repair. or any sign of any accident damage ever. Minnesota convertibles are usually off the road for at least half the year. so they don’t get salted. and they don’t accumulate as many miles – This car is a text-book example of that. The exhaust system is either factory original. or all OEM parts (we couldn’t tell. but either way. it’s impressive!). The sump guard is a nice addition to any Alfa’s alloy oil pan. The sump guard has no dents. and indeed the exhaust system has no scraped or dents – Unusual on these cars (and another indication that this car was always babied). Car starts up and idles at a smooth 800 rpm. first time. every time. as only the later model Bosch fuel injected Alfas can be expected to do. These are the smoothest running. most reliable. and easiest to repair models Alfa ever sold here. The car goes down the road with the precision and response that you expect. It is stable. even when braking with hands off the wheel. In an effort to have everything be perfect for his buyer. the owner just had tie rods replaced and a wheel alignment done. along with fresh Castrol and filter. We could find no faults in this car’s road manners. The Owner’s Manual. the warranty and service books are tucked into the beautiful leather-bound folder that came with these cars. There is also a reproduction factory shop manual and a thick file of receipts to go with the car. Receipts from the past 14 months show radiator re-core. coolant flush. brake system flush. all new fuel hoses. inspections and maintenance (copies can be seen at the photo link). Having owned many Alfas over the past thirty-two years. and driven many. many more in the US and in Europe. I can offer an evaluation on these cars that most people cannot. I found this Spider to be an exceptionally well preserved example of a desirable and rare sub-model: Car needs nothing except for a new owner. No disappointments here. The Spider Quadriglio was something very special. This was Alfa Romeo’s effort to offer a truly luxurious roadster model. It sold for premium price over both of the “regular” Veloce and Graduate models. and was loaded with standard equipment not even available on the other cars: Unique alloy wheels with larger tires. unique body trim pieces. big powered door mirrors. and a very luxurious interior. The glove-leather seats (dove grey with red stitching). plush red carpets. the standard hardtop. and many small touches all made the Quadrifoglio (that’s Italiano for ‘four-leaf clover’) easily the most refined and comfortable roadster that Alfa ever offered. The general finish also always seemed a cut above the standard car. and this is just as evident today – This model just feels ‘special’!
