Wild Plum (D9) AMX. Original 360ci, Automatic & Posi. 2-Door Hardtop. Very Solid

As to myself, I am a (69) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that is at 100% with (1,218) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle/classic cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.

Just some quick history on the 1972 Javelin AMX:

Even among the AMC faithful, the second-generation Javelin (1971-1974) body style remains a love-it-or-hate-it design. Affectionately called the ”humpster" Javelin, due to its ultra-prominent bulging front fenders, it regularly draws ire from those who describe designer Eric Kugler's work on the Javelin as extravagant and extraneous. On the other hand, admirers of the second-generation Javelin find that it echoes design themes spread across the pony car field in the early 1970s, and they draw quick comparisons to the contemporary Corvette and Mustang.

Neither side, however, can disagree that the second-generation Javelin offers nearly as wide a variety of style and performance configurations as the contemporary Mustang, at much more affordable prices.

In the mid- to late 1960s, catching up to the Mustang was the chief aim for every one of the domestic automakers. AMC, seeking a younger image, developed the Javelin and the AMX simultaneously, basing them both on the Rambler American platform. The Javelin was a conventional car with a live rear axle and a choice of straight-six or V-8 engines and bucket front seats and, along with the two-seat AMX sportster, it succeeded in enlivening the public's opinion of AMC.

Following the expanding girth of its fellow pony cars, in 1971, the Javelin grew an inch in wheelbase, three inches in length, and 3.3 inches in width; while the unibody car gained just over 400 pounds, it appeared more much massive. A more significant change that year was the elimination of the unique two-seater AMX body style due to poor sales. Yet AMC kept the headliner-grabbing AMX nameplate and simply shifted it onto the four-seat Javelin body.

The base Javelin remained in 1971, as did the sporty SST model, but AMC confusingly shuffled those models around over the next few years: In 1972, it dropped the base model Javelin, leaving only the SST; then in 1973 and 1974, the product planners reversed course, dropping the SST model and offering the base model yet again. Both the Javelin and the AMX met their demise after the 1974 model year.

While not as numerous as the Mustang nowadays, it's far from impossible to find a humpster Javelin or AMX.

Exterior: The Wild Plum paint looks very nice but does have imperfections. I am quite confident that this Javelin AMX still retains most of the original and solid body panels. Body work was not the strong point of the previous restorer. The car is not a show car but a nice and hard to find AMX with great bones. The tires look very new and are mounted on very nice aftermarket chrome rims.

Please note:

· Head lights (working);

· Tail lights (not working);

· Brake lights (working);

· Blinkers (not working);

· Wipers (not working);

Interior: The Javelin AMX interior appear is good but not great condition. Dash pad, headliner and seats are very good with the exception of a rip in the driver's seat. Front/rear door panels and seat backs are in good condition. Rugs are OK. The heater core must have been leaking as it was disconnected on the engine side.

Most electrical components are not working. Appears like many electrical components have been disconnected from the fuse box.

Radio (not installed);

Heater blower (not working);

Horn (not working);

Speedometer (not working);

Fuel gauge (not working);

Oil gauge (appears to be working);

Temp gauge (appears to be working);

Alternator gauge (appears to be working);

Engine: The original 360ci 4bbl engine is said to be a rebuilt. It has headers and an aftermarket radiator. It does start easily and sounds and runs very good with plenty of power and no smoking. The car does have power steering. The metal ID tag is still attached to the passenger's valve cover identifying the assembly date and displacement of the block. 360 is cast on the block, both sides. Power assisted brakes as well.

Trunk; The trunk and trunk lid look very good. The spare and jack assembly are not present. The trunk does not have a trunk mat.

Undercarriage; The undercarriage is basically rust and rot free with a good dual exhaust. A posi unit rear axle is also present. Just look at the photos of the undercarriage and you will see what I mean.

FYI: The owner does not have a Maine title for this 1972 Javelin AMX as Maine does not issue titles for vehicles that are more than (15) years old. I have sold cars all over the country as well as Canada, England, Switzerland, Germany and Australia and have never had a problem. The car will come with a Bill-of-Sale, the Maine Registration signed over to the new owner and a copy of the Maine law regarding titles which is on a form issued by the Maine Motor Vehicle Department
