Description of 1986 Ford Mustang GT

This is a very rare 1986 Mustang GT because it has not been raced. beaten or modified. Original paint! Original interior Original wheels (but re-cleared in clear powder coat) Original engine. transmission. clutch. etc. No accidents Original headlights. fog lights. fog light covers Original and functional rear hatch cover Original premium stereo with digital radio and cassette player (another rarity among the 86's) 1986 was the first year for fuel injection and the 8. 8 differential and last year for the 4 headlight body style. I purchased the car from a collector a couple years ago and decided to freshen up a few things in order to make it a reliable driver so I can enjoy taking it to shows and Sunday drives with my family without having to worry about break downs. So I performed an extensive tune up on it. but saved everything that made sense to save (and even some parts that may not make sense. like the old spark plug wires and spark plugs) In this extensive tune up. the car received the following: New OEM replacement water pump (original has been professionally rebuild and stored) New heater core (improved design from the weak original. this one has a lifetime warranty and is made of aluminum. which transfers heat faster and the heat is very hot) New A/C dryer and hose and R134a conversion (fittings) (has ice cold A/C) New Goodyear Gatorback tires. exactly like the originals. Goodyear is making these tires again under their classic car line and only available through selected resellers) Front brake stock replacement brake pads (NAPA). stock replacement rotors (TireRack). front wheel bearings (Timken - same as OEM). I also replaced the internals of the master cylinder but kept the original master cylinder itself since it is aluminum (all other 86 Fords had cast iron) and it had not failed. but I wanted to make sure the seals were fresh) and of course all new brake fluid. Rear brake shoes (Ford). springs. clips and wheel cylinders (NAPA). The original drums were in great shape. so I kept them. Replaced all fluids. hoses. serpentine belt. battery (Ford OEM) and all filters. New spark plugs (NGK). spark plug wires (stock replacement by Taylor). rotor and cap (Ford) Stainless steel mufflers by Dynomax (originals were broken internally and had pin holes around welds) and Flowmaster stainless steel tail pipes (only one that had the right fit) (I kept the original stainless tail pipes which can be reused with some fabrication to attached to new mufflers). When the rear axle fluid was changed. I had the shop test the locking capability of the infamous Ford "Traction-Lok differential" and since they were below specs. I had them replaced with a set of clutches from Ford Performance. which are the same ones Ford uses on the Shelby GT500 differential. While they had it apart. I upgraded to the automatic car axle ratio for better around town drivability. since the stock gears it came with a mostly for fuel economy and highway use. (stock was 2. 73 and it now has 3. 27. but all removed parts are saved) I changed the speedometer gear to match the new axle ratio. In the process. all bearings were changed to new Timken bearings (same as OEM) and new stock replacement axles (made by the same company that makes them for Ford) were installed due to the axle bearings having rusted from sitting. (the rear axle bearings near the brakes are lubed by the differential fluid which only cover them about half way up when not in use) Numerous other details were cleaned. adjusted. fixed and I can show you all of the details in the service records I have with the car. As a result. the car is super reliable. starts immediately and runs like it's 1986 all over again. Runs like new. Better than a restored car. since it is only original once and this one is so well conserved. it is a time capsule. The car includes a $300 custom made super soft car cover. original brochure. window sticker. owner's manual. shop manuals and all original parts replaced for maintenance purposes. This is a unique opportunity to own this special rare. unmodified car. It took us years of searching to find such a pristine example. Don't pass it up. Additional pictures available upon request.
