Description of 1960 Austin Healey Sprite

You are bidding on a 1960 Austin Healey Sprite AN5L36056 with 66. 00 original miles. This is a rust free Texas car that was purchased new in Houston and owned by the same individual until his untimely death in 2010. This sporty red Bugeye has been undergoing a rolling restoration since being bought from his estate. Aside from the very popular forward tilting bonnet. front disc brakes and Weber carburetor. this is a very original car. The grill is in original excellent condition. and of course. fits perfectly. unlike reproductions. Some of the chrome bits have been replaced. like the wiper bezels and grab handle. The original rear bumpers. light fixtures. instrument bezels. tail pipe extension. and such. are very presentable. All the rubber body gaskets and seals are new. The fan belt and water hoses are new. The wiring harness is new and all the connectors have been replaced. The fuse box and voltage regulator have been replaced with the later push on connector models. An extra fuse is installed to protect the otherwise unfused circuits. The battery is from Interstate with new cables and this car features halogen headlights. The starter. generator (with new tach cable) and wiper motor are rebuilt. The ignition switch and starter solenoid are new. The Lucas vacuum advance distributor is brand new. as are the spark plug wires. The coil has been replaced with the Lucas Sport model. The mechanical fuel pump is replaced with a modern electronic version. controlled by a Lucas toggle switch on the dash. The gas tank and fuel lines (with filter) are new. The modern (loud!) horn is Bosch. Everything works! This Sprite has the original gearbox. differential and 948cc engine. The engine has been upgraded to a Weber DGV down draft manual choke carburetor with new motor and gearbox mounts. throttle cable. spin-off oil filter. exhaust header. and water pump. It is painted the correct olive green engine color. The compression is 140 PSI on all four cylinders and the engine does not overheat. due in part to the late model six blade fan. Runs great on regular gas! The front and rear suspensions are completely rebuilt: heavy duty shocks. steering rack. new kingpins. wheel bearings. poly bushings. tie rod ends. trunions…everything. Consequentially. there is absolutely no play in the steering and the Sprite drives perfectly. The tires are period correct Firestone Deluxe Champion 5. 20X13 mounted on the original wheels. The uprated brake system is completely rebuilt: new calipers. pads. discs. rubber hoses. brake/clutch master cylinder. rear wheel cylinders. brake shoes. and pedal pads…the works. The clutch line and slave cylinder are new. The dash board is newly recovered and the carpet is new. The doors are lined in the same black carpet and the door pocket panels are recovered in black vinyl. There is a handsome new 14” black leather with red stitching and polished aluminum spoke steering wheel. The aluminum cockpit surround is polished to a high luster. The windshield is chip free and the chromed rearview mirror is new. New black lap belts are in place. The paint and bodywork were probably done by Earl Scheib. and get a “ten foot” rating. The semi-gloss black underside and engine compartment are extremely tidy. and deserve very high marks. This is after all. a no rust Texas car. which is an extremely rare find. The top and tonneau cover are very nice. and side curtains are included. This highly collectable little Austin Healey starts immediately. runs and drives nicely… getting nearly 40MPG at 55MPH.
