Inspection by restoration garage:
DRIVEABILITY (FUEL AND IGNITION) DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION:Engine should run based on inspection findings:-Turned engine over by hand to verify engine is not seized and will tolerate cranking compression test.
-Remove 6 spark plugs and inspect for proper gap and indications of engine issues. Plugs are in good condition.
-Disabled ignition system by removing distributor cap. Points are showing wear. Plug wires and cap older but in good visual condition.
-Electric fuel pump run with key in on position. Disabled fuel pump for compression test.-Inspected carburetor system and disconnected fuel lines to protect carburetors from poor quality/old fuel.
-Performed compression test, engine has good compression. Test pressures recorded are 180-170-185-185-185-180 psi in 1-6cylinder arrangement.
-Engine showed 40 psi oil pressure during cranking for compression test. This is considered a good result.
-Coolant low, appearance of multiple system leaks present at radiator and thermostat housing, and potentially water pump.
-Lower radiator hose is in poor condition, cracking and leaking at accessory pipe junction.-Engine test-fire not completed due to fuel system contamination and cooling system in questionable condition.
COMPLETE VEHICLE INSPECTION-Tires are aged.
-Vehicle wiring harness sheathing deteriorated.
-Evidence of rodent activity, full assessment required.
-Brake fluid reservoir found completely dry. Added fluid to attempt determining leak point. Pedal drops to floor with no pressure build. No external leaks found at this time.
-Fuel tank is in poor condition internally. Rust and varnish present. Tank and lines must be refurbished or replaced.
-Exhaust missing flex section between manifold and side muffler.
-Underbody inspection on vehicle lift shows advanced corrosion of frame and body structure components.
-Driver forward leaf spring mounting is corroded and torn from frame.
-Bump stop crash boxes above rear axle housing are rotted and collapsed.
-Numerous perforations in body tub. Patch attempts have been made in various locations.
-Rust found layering between body tub and top of vehicle frame.
-Leaf springs extremely rusty near forward shackle mounts.
-Rust hole in frame above muffler.
-Excessive play found at rear wheel hubs. Wheels are loose on hub splines allowing play before the drum or axle flange is engaged.
-Gear oil leaking from passenger rear axle housing as evidenced by oil on brake drum.
-Steering box leaking oil.
-Driver suspension upright wet with fluid. May be brake fluid or damper oil.
-Steering linkage is either excessively greased or may have damage boots. Cleaning required for further inspection.
-Driver front friction damper leaking oil. Fender panels have been cut to access fill points on dampers.
-Clutch pedal feels like there may be a problem with the release bearing or linkage.
-Shift lever has solid feel with defined gates/gear positions.
-Heater and ancillary cooling hoses in poor condition.
-Vehicle has had extensive fiberglass repairs to the body panels.
