Description of 1967 Austin Healey 3000

Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 MK III, Phase 2.

1967 original Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 Mark III 52,000 mi original “SURVIVOR" Historically documented with rare factory production windscreen card with hand written notes from factory workers plus Spanish SHIPPING PAPERS AND DOCUMENTS 3rd owner in great condition. Odometer reading is probably accurate per earlier owners (whom I’ve spoken to) as it was driven sparingly for years on end. I’ve put about 2K mi on in 6 years. Original everything and SOLID! Drive anywhere! Heritage certified — original engine, color combo. Investors and Austin Healey enthusiasts take note:
HISTORY: Taken off the assembly line and shipped to Barcelona Spain by special request 1967. Originally was destined for Chicago and made to U.S. Specification, however was refitted with euro signal lenses and factory locking fuel cap before it left the factory. Spent a year in Spain and then was loaded onto the Spanish Sea liner "COVADONGA" From Spain it was shipped to Bilabo New York port (I HAVE ALL THE SHIPPING DOCUMENTS) then taken to its original owner AL D in Valparaiso Indiana where it called home until bought by Michael G, a Healey mechanic and restorer, from AL D’s estate in 2007. I have an old news paper clipping of the Long time owner being installed as president of the Ellwood works management Assn. of U.S Steel 1970 Michael found in the glove box. It’s like going back in time! I also have a photo of the "SISTER" Healey and owner that was built on the assembly line directly in front of mine. A exact duplicate minus the euro mods. I bought the car from MICHAEL G in 2016 and have addressed things as they needed to be addressed since then.
ORIGINAL "Factory production card with factory worker hand written notes" Spanish shipping documents shipping papers and hand book.A very well documented Healey with personal history.
FACTORY CHALK MARKS: Factory yellow "67" chalk marks still present in boot wheel well left side of spare tire.
Rare factory installed LOCKING PETROL CAP which shares the ignition key.
CAR STRUCTURE: All solid top to bottom, solid floors, boot floor, toe boards, outriggers, frame rails straight as an arrow with much of the original British Racing Green paint still intact!
INTERIOR: extremely nice original interior with very crisp wood dash and gauges, dash pad, door panels, and rear seating area. The long time owner always drove with the top up! He liked the sports car feel, but did not care for the convertible concept! Therefore, well preserved interior... New carpets and sound and heat insulation installed by MICHAEL G for a more comfortable ride. Original seat covers are in wonderful condition… also installed new seat foams for more comfort and support. Talk about a period 67 Healey BJ8.... It did not have seat belts until MICHAEL G installed period style seat belts in 2010
DRIVE TRAIN AND MOTOR: All original and never removed from car. Starts, idles, and runs great! Car driven on 100 mile weekend trips without issue. Motor bay was nicely detailed to all original spec. I have the original radiator that goes with the car.
I had car serviced at British Car Service in Santa Monica by famed Brit car mechanic Radcliffe Reed until he retired last year. May 2022 I had a fuel pump rebuild along with new points, plugs, coil and tune up at Independent Rolls Royce Service in North Hollywood. Barry is quite far from me and is the only one I’d trust to work on the car, so it’s a haul. Besides not driving it much these days, it’s really a pain to get it serviced now. I have a ’97 993 Porsche C4 cabriolet to use as my fun car, and a great independent Porsche mechanic 1 block from Radcliffe’s old place.
TRANSMISSION: Flawless, shifts smooth into all gears and reverse, overdrive functions perfectly as it should and great on interstates. Clutch is in very good condition and engages smoothly.
BRAKE system: All rebuilt front to back with rebuilt from calipers, cut rotors and rear drums, soft lines, front wheels bearings, new rear brake cylinders, clutch slave cylinder and converted to dot 5 for much better reliability.
COOLING SYSTEM: New all aluminum radiator with larger core, Texas cooling fan, roper sleeved thermostat, new water pump, ew hoses and correct hose clamps, fresh green coolant added, recovery expansion tank installed for a sealed cooling system.
CARBURETORS: Rebuilt with S.U. Kits by MICHAEL G New moss fuel tank and S.U. fuel pump for a clean fuel system.
TIRES 5 Nexon tires and tubes, all balanced with new front end professional alignment...drives smooth at all speeds! I really love the Nexon tires, very confidence inspiring in all conditions.
EXHAUST SYSTEM: all stainless steel front to back!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: All original and still retains positive ground, functions perfectly in great condition. Recent points, plugs, coil, distributor cap, plug wires.
OIL SYSTEM: up graded spin on oil filter adaptor for much better reliable sealing and filtering. (I have the original canister oil filter) MICHAEL G removed cleaned and resealed the oil pan,
(MOSTLY) ORIGINAL PAINT is what can be expected of a 55 year old car! Front left and right quarter panel were resprayed decades ago it looks like. The original paint is funky, like a comfortable old leather jacket! But it’s still in presentable condition for its age, as the original soft top — original window is hazy, but I NEVER drive with top up so I left it. All body panels are solid! Has some dings, checking and touch-up as can be expected but nothing serious. I tried to capture the imperfections in photos. (the most extensive peel is the trunk latch, passenger side, which you can see in the photo of locking gas cap)
Since the car is a survivor I left the paint and top alone and everyone who sees the car agrees. They are factory original only once and not many factory built survivors left in the world in this very nice condition with documents, pictures and history. MICHAEL G did a "light mechanical restoration" — all that was needed to an already nice condition factory built original time capsule Healey as detailed above. I’ve just fixed things as they came up. The last year built and higher horsepower factory Austin Healey.
IMO, there are three ways to go with car:
1) Do what I did, leave it as a survivor and keep it mechanically humming with a nice coat of wax. Drive, enjoy and relax about owning it. It might or might not appreciate much, but your money’s well-parked (and fun).
2) Do a cosmetic face-lift, paint, top, etc etc etc (but where do you stop?). This feels like a halfway measure.
3) It would be a perfect candidate for a “rotisserie restoration,” as you’d be starting with a really solid car. Take it apart, rebuild everything from the ground up. The good thing is it’s the original BRG paint w black top so it stays authentic in the best color combo and there are no structural issues that I’m aware of. These can get expensive fast.
I think Barry would be willing to chat with you about the car if that would be helpful, but it would be best to come have a look at it if you can. I tried to give a complete and honest account of car w extensive photos, but this is a 55 year old original car and I cannot guarantee anything beyond what I know and have disclosed. The car is sold AS IS. Check my ebay history for previous happy buyers of my vintage cars over the years: XKE, MGA, MBZ CLK 55, Porsche 911.

Anyway, good luck and happy bidding! Will work out payment details (money in my bank account then you get car) and assist shipping for successful bidder.
