Description of 1976 BMW 2002

1976 BMW 2002, ompletely restored!

This is the one that brought BMW back on the car scene, he 2002 model, spirited little sports sedan which became very popular and sold in large volumes.

This particular model is the last of the series and came equipped with manual transmission, unctionalBehrAC and sunroof.

I had the car for more than two years and put a lot of "blood, weat and gears (and money)" in it in order to bring it back to its glory. Accordingly, t sustained a thorough restoration with no expenses spared.

First of all, ven though the original paint was still decent, decided to give it a new one, ut not just a basic job... It was stripped completely to bare metal, ll rust spots repaired: floor pans, heel wells, ll usual suspect areas were addressed and are documented with pictures and movies. Since it was a Southern car, here was minimal corrosion, ut now it is all gone. The paint process wasa high dollar ($6000+) two-stage paint in the original "GranatrotRed"with a touch of metallic, stunning color nicely complementing the Beige interior. After that, t was wet sanded, cut and buff"performed to a "new car look" . Paint now is flawless and has a deep shine as seen in thepics.

Interior benefited from a freshening up some time ago, t is very presentable and shows not tears and rips. Seat covers, arpet, ash, tc are in very good condition. It has newly installed vinyl headliner in the original factory White.Sunroof mechanism was rebuilt, as new crank and works pretty good, ut sometimes it needs little help.

From the mechanical standpoint, t has been taken care of at the"BeemerClinic"in Henderson NC to the tune of $3000+ when it got lots of new parts and a lot of work performed:

  • newBilsteinHD sport struts, rotection tube, bsorber, ower mount...
  • fan belt, lternator
  • brake drums, rake pads, ylinder, ll brakes R&R
  • new spark plugs, ew valve cover gasket
  • carburetor rebuilt
  • new ignition contact set (points)
  • re-torqued head bolts, djust valves, eplace plugs, djust points, iming and calibration
  • new fuel line, uel filter, nlet lines and throttle spring
  • new battery with new terminals
  • new thermostat, ew oil change, ew coolant
  • new gas tank
  • new tires

In addition to that, heBehrAC system was converted and recharged. It has no leaks and it blows ice-cold air, uite surprisingly for this vintage. New door weather-strippings are present.

It performs very well: engine starts right away, xhibits adequate power, lows no smoke. The manual transmission shifts as it should with no problems at all. All dashgaugeswork: tachometer, speedo, tc... It is equipped with a Alpine sound system with CD changer, little dated, ut still functional. A newer rear carrier assembly (differential) was installed. Click here to see a video of the car.

Actual miles are105Kand they are documented by a long list of receipts and paperwork. Previous owner, lady from TN had it for 22 years and apparently was the second owner.

What is left to the new owner is to rebuild the twosunvisorsand reinstall the liner for the sunroof... I have a rebuilt sunroof frame and liner material.

This is a very nice example of the lastBimmerbefore the introduction of the 3-series. Its condition, estoration work andcollectabilitystatus recommends it as a #2+ quality car rated byHagertyPrice Guide between $29800 for #1 and $16800 for #2. Click here for evaluation.
