Description of 1983 BMW 5-Series

BMW E28 1983 533i-to-545i Project

This is a non-running project that I just will not find the time to finish. I put a lot of time and some money into what I wanted to be an E28 545i having the old E23 745 M106 power train controlled by a Megasquirt in order to get boost pressures above the factory limit. There is NO dirt on the engine or the underside of this car. What needs to be done is to finish some basic relay box wiring, wiring at the processor, programming of the processor, and some minimal console, dash, and door reassembly after door-poppers are added.The Euro Grilles and Bumpers, Wheels and Tires, Struts and Springs, Turbo and Manifold, New Upholstery, and OEM Moonroof would fetch me much more than the asking price here if I parted this car out, but I just don’t have the time to mess with that.The car is garaged in Central North Houston,TX.

1983 533i with Clear Blue Title in my name.

Engine:

Original 3.3 Liter with E23 745i M106 Turbo “log” manifold, K27 Turbo, Intercooler, and Waste Gate.

Cylinder Head gasket matched to both Intake and Exhaust Manifolds. Combustion chambers thoroughly cleaned and valves lapped. NO dirt or carbon traces of any kind inside or outside of this engine. Head drilled and tapped at both ends to accommodate installation of knock sensors ( installed ). Saab APC Knock Sensing System installed and tested. Twin sensors at each end of the cylinder head provide a knock-warning light on the dash and a signal to the processor.

Wiring for Fuel Injection all other engine control-related wiring is hidden in a second fuel rail and has been cleanly run into the glove box - Ready for Megasquirt which is already built and will be included. Wiring accommodates all necessary inputs and outputs plus added Boost Signal, 60-2 CKP, and Saab Knock Sensing.

M30 60-2 Harmonic Balancer and CKP in place.

GM Waste Spark Ignition System matched to Megasquirt Configuration. Distributor cleanly deleted.

Correct Bosch E23 745i Injectors installed.

M106 Oil Filter Housing with Remote Oil Cooler.

Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge plumbed and installed.

Twin Electric Fans ( Radiator has been moved forward – AC deleted ).

Exhaust is very secure and is run to exit just forward of the rear wheels.

Body and Chassis:

European Bumpers and European Headlights.

Door Handles Shaved and Hood Vents modified/added.

Moon Roof – Genuine BMW part from a South African E23. Perfect OEM fit and function ( NOT Saab ).

All stationary and moveable glass is in excellent condition.

New Alpina-style wheels with New Khumo Low-Profile Tires 225 40 ZR18 ( 0 miles on all ).

Brakes are new all around except for the steel lines.

New 1.25 inch Lowering Springs and new Bilstein Shocks.

Seats and Package Tray reupholstered. Interior in very good shape ( somewhat disassembled )

Battery Cables and Tray Relocated to passenger rear in trunk.

Fuel Tank removed, cleaned, sump added, and refinished.

Mirrors and all other parts not seen in pictures are included.
