MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to announce yet another cult classic from the 1970s, a 1976 BMW 2002! BMW 2002s are one of the hottest cars on the classic market right now. In June 2016, Hagerty, the world’s leading insurance provider for classic vehicles, reported, “This iconic BMW remains very popular, especially on both coasts. Similar to the other German cars, Hagerty Price Guide values have been especially strong for 2002s, with an 18 percent gain over the last eight months.” With 2002s fetching higher and higher prices, prospective buyers should spend minimal time deciding whether to buy or they could be priced out of the market. This car was the epitome of performance with its then-forward thinking design.

Finished in the popular, brilliant and rare, factory correct black (code 086), the professional paint job shows extremely well. Front and rear aluminum bumpers have a fit and finish that show well. The headlights and taillights are in very good condition with no hazing or cracks. Inside the trunk is the original tire jack and full-sized Doral P195/60R14 tire and other spare parts plus the correct undercoating is visible on the rear wheelwells. This 2002 sports BMW’s 14-inch BBS Basketweaves, which were painted and clear coated plus center caps, which display only minor blemishes upon close inspection and come within new Doral P195/60R14 radial tires.

Inside, the cherry red leather front and rear seats both look excellent and present themselves as close to showroom new as you will ever find. The sunroof is inoperable but the original and correct door panels and carpet complement the car’s exterior and look good, as does the new headliner. The odometer is inoperable but all other factory VDO gauges are original and function as designed and the original shift knob sports the BMW logo. The original dash is in very good condition. The original three-spoke steering wheel is in very good condition with no cracks, a BMW center cap and a functioning horn.

This car comes equipped with a numbers-matching, 2742048, 2.0L single overhead cam M10 four-cylinder engine with an iron block and fed by a Weber two-barrel 32/36 carburetor, which previous owner cleaned and adjusted. Points and condenser were also replaced. Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a Getrag four-speed manual transmission. At the same time, American importer Max Hoffman asked BMW for a sporting version of the 02 series to sell in the United States.
