Description of 1973 BMW 3-Series

This is a BMW 3.0 CS “grey market” car. I bought the car in 1999 in Austin, Texas. It’s been an occasional driver since then. All of the work (paint, interior, carpet, motor) was done in 2000 by Terry Sayther Automotive. This car has a few quirks like any of these cars that have been around, but it’s strong, fun, and a really good driver.

Mileage: Has 106,700 kilometers (grey market cars are all in KM), the equivalent is 60,063 miles.

Motor: Has a conversion from the original 3.0 motor to a more modern fuel-injected BMW 3.5L motor + transmission from a 1996 BMW 740. This is a popular (but expensive) modification that removes the original 3.0 carbureted motor and makes the car much more reliable and drivable. The motor had about 50,000 miles on it when I bought it. It probably has about 75,000 miles now.

Suspension, tires: I had upgrades done for larger front brakes, a performance sway-bar system, and I've replaced all the key components, brakes, clutch. Wheels are new and tires are solid.

Stereo: This has a fabulous stereo system with a separate amp and AUX for iPods or Android, but the rear woofer has blown and needs to be replaced.

Rust: There is some rust around the sunroof area. There is also rust in one of the replaceable bumper pieces.I do not believe that there is any serious structural rust that can’t be repaired.

Interior: New leather upholstery in 2003. Has a very specialized Nardi steering wheel.

Quirks: Somebody tried to steal the car at one point and cut the ignition, so I jerry-rigged it with a switch/plunger ignition system. Could be fixed to start with the key again, of course. Horn doesn’t work. Seat belts are 1970s style lap-belt only.

Title: Colorado title, clean.
