Description of 1994 BMW 3-Series

E36 318IS 1994 updated with the Downing Atlanta Supercharger Kit, Conforti Chip, H&R lowering 1” springs, and Bosal Brospeed exhaust.Beyond these, the car is entirely stock and handles very well. Performance mods result in about ~168 HP@5,500 RPMs. Not M3 performance but close to an E36 325i with a better front/rear weight distribution due to the lighter front end. Engine runs perfectly well and spools up without any issues up to its 129 MPH ECU limited speed.

Owned since 2001 by a BMW enthusiast family which owned six Bimmer’s in the past 25 years. Maintained with an open checkbook by any of the owner’s several auto service and repair shops.

Condition Report:

Paint – Original jet black in good condition as it was kept undercover for most of our ownership. Could use a nice compounding and polish. The car was regularly clayed and sealed. The trunk lid has a 3 inch scratch from a too-low garage door when the car was kept on a lift at home. Ding below right rear lights from a parking lot dent. Hood shows a bit of road rash from flying rocks. A few dents on the sides from the typical “I do not care to hit your car” dings by irresponsible drivers in parking lots. Beyond that, it has never been in the body shop.Original windshield with very minimal pitting.

Interior. Mostly original, Headliner replaced three years ago. Aftermarket wood trim kit. The carpeting in good shape with original mats still in the car. Drivers side seat has a 3” inch seam split in the bottom cushion, the classic left bolster wear in BMW’s and carpet by driver’s seat damaged in a couple of spots (about 1 ”in diameter). Rest of the upholstery in great shape. See pictures.

Equipment. Everything works fine (sunroof, power windows, radio). CD player with cartridge but not sure if it works. Temp control wheel a bit off center. If you are familiar with pre electronically controlled BMW’s, the temperature wheel in the center vents controls heat and cold after you set up the temperature in the manual thermostat. Here, the wheel is biased where the cold kicks in after 3/4 of the way to cold versus in the centerline.

Other. Tires, struts, and shock absorbers replaced with new about 500 miles ago. Rear adjustable lower control arms. Aftermarket amp and bass box with plenty of head-splitting power. It has tinted side windows.

Documentation. Clear title in Hand. Original user manuals. Supercharger, chip and dyno paperwork.

An excellent car for a BMW enthusiast that recognizes that the E36 series firmly cemented BMW’s dominance in the sports sedan arena. Not a car for someone who wants to own a BMW at a low price. After 25 years, BMW’s of today benefit from great strides in engineering advances.

This is a car from another era, without traction control, no electronic suspension, no computer alerts and no cupholders! It is a great commuter car with excellent fuel mileage (actual: 31 MPG @ 65 MPH). But it is also a car meant to be driven and enjoyed, especially on long winding roads where your skills as a driver and the feedback from the car are more important than a computer.
