Description of 1987 Buick Grand National

CONTACT ME FOR 148 HI RES PHOTOS IN MY PHOTOBUCKET ACCOUNT OF THIS CAR
I bought this car in Feb of 06 with 49,000 miles on it. It was a extremely clean and well taken care of car then, nd is even nicer now. Ebay will not let me post links in the description, ut I have a photobucket account with 148 pictures of this car taken yesterday (day before listing this auction). Please read this entire description and look at every one of those photos before bidding. You can message, all, r text me for a link to the photobucket account.
Pictures:
I took the pics of this car right before sundown and a semi-over cast day to try and minimize sun glare. I used the flash in every picture to try to get as much light and clarity as possible, ut by doing that, he flash is going to show every spec of dust and lint, o just keep that in mind when looking at the pics, ecause the car really will look even better in person.
This Grand National is loaded with every option I know of except T Tops and digital dash. No T Tops because it has the factory astroroof (moon roof). It even has the rare Twilight Sentinel (automatic headlights) option, nd it works perfectly.
Some other factory options are: rear defrost, ower seat, ower locks, ower windows, emote pass mirror adjust, ap dome lights, ower antenna, emote trunk opener, ighted pass vanity mirror, aint chip guard on lower side body panels, runk carpet kit, actory security alarm system, stroroof, oncert sound system, ilt steering. All of these options work as should from factory, nd yes, ven the power antenna
Everything on the car works as should except one thing to note is the air conditioner charge is getting low. It still has the R12 in it, nd I have never serviced it. I noticed the compressor cycling about a year ago and I never bothered with it since I rarely drive the car, nd never drive it when its very hot outside.
There are a handful of additions to the car I will talk about in detail later, nd all of them are easily reversible.
Drive train:
I have all the original dealer receipts for this car from when it was new from the first owner. They took the car in for any basic service you can think of and kept the receipt. They will go with the car.
I have done all maintenance on this car over the last 10 years. I even built a jig to do my own front end alignment on it when I put new tires on it. I have a factory service manual on cd, nd it will go with the car. This car is ready for a cross country trip right now. It needs nothing changed or serviced. Within the last year I have changed the rear differential fluid, ower steering fluid, ir filter. A few days ago I did a transmission fluid and filter change, ntifreeze flush, nd engine oil and filter change with Royal Purple 10W40. The spark plugs and wires have been replaced within the last year and are factory correct size. The ac delco battery is 2 years old and is in perfect condition. The brake fluid was completely flushed 3 years ago.
When you arrive to pick up the car, ou will start the engine cold so you can see it does not blow a puff of smoke out the exhaust. The engine starts, dles, nd runs smoothly as it should. It does not burn oil, nd it has no exhaust leaks. The driver side header is notorious for cracking on these cars, o I removed it before it even cracked, olted it to a spare engine head, ig welded it in that area to add strength, hen re-tack welded the heat shield back on and reinstalled the header.
It has a very small oil leak from the rear main, nd we're talking about a couple three drips for a couple days after you turn the engine off. This is perfectly normal for these cars. I could easily change the rear main seal, ut even new ones usually leak too. It is just a poor design, nd since it is so small, haven't bothered with it.
The thermostat, ater pump, nd all rad and heater hoses have been replaced within the last 3 years.
A few days ago I installed brand new motor mounts. A year or so ago I installed all brand new OEM Body bushings. The old ones where in pretty nice shape, ut the car is almost 30 years old, o I did it as a pm measure. I also installed the bushing #'s 4,5 and 7.
The front brakes and rotors, heel bearings, nd front stabilizer bar bushings where replaced a year ago. All of the rear control arm bushings have just been replaced with OEM rubber bushings.
The transmission is in perfect working order and has no leaks, s is the rear posi differential also. The engine belt is a few years old, ut no cracks and in perfect shape. The turbo and intercooler are also in excellent shape and no issues.
The car drives straight down the highway and has good alignment.
The tires are BF Goodrich G Force speed rated tires, nd have over 95% tread on them (yes, ven the back ones too).
Interior:
The interior is easily a 9.5 out of 10. When you get in the car you will think your getting inside a brand new car. It even retains most of its new car smell, nd you can hold me to that claim. The seats are all in mint condition. no rips, ears, r signs of wear. Even the top of the back seat (see pics) are not faded and are perfect, nd these are the original seat covers, have not replaced them. The foam, ven in the drivers seat is still firm and like new. If you look close, ou can see some very very minimal wear on the driver side seat belt. When you grab the steering wheel, t will literally feel like a brand new steering wheel. The leather has zero signs of wear, nd still has its rough texture feel. It is not worn or shiny, nd the rubber shift handle is the exact same perfect condition. Even the dash is still like a new dash. I have never put any of that shiny crap on any of the interior. The astroroof works perfectly, he seal is the original seal and is in great shape and it does not leak. The headliner, hade panel, nd sun visors are all perfect and have no issues. No bubbles or hanging down or fading or brittleness. The top of both door panels show no wear. There is no chips or cracks in any of the glass.
The carpet is virtually perfect except for a spot on the driver side floor that looks like it is worn, ut, ts under the floor mat and you don't even see it. The floor mats are aftermarket, ut our excellent quality and perfect shape.
Horn, ights, ipers, tc.... all work as should.
Both doors on this car open and shut as gentle as a new car. I can literally shut the doors from the outside by pushing on the door handle with my pinky finger. The door seals are all original and in excellent shape. No leaks when it rains. When you drive this car down the interstate at 70 mph there is no air leaks around the door glass. All of the trim around the windows is in Excellent condition and not bent or dented.
The trunk carpet is all perfect. The spare tire is also perfect and doesn't look to ever have been used, ncluding the jack. All the Jack hardware is there and is correctly mounted.
Body:
I have never wrecked this car, nd have never found any evidence of damage.
There is no rust on this car, eriod! Bring your flash light and inspection mirror with you, r you can borrow mine. I have a nice clean garage floor and we can properly lift the car so you can crawl all around under it and inspect.
All the trim, lastic, ights, tc.. are in excellent shape.
Bumpers and impact strips and bumperette rubber is all perfect condition. No evidence of being bumped and not dry-rotted.
The emblems are perfect condition and not cracked or checked.
This car also does not have the typical crack in the roof pillars that so many G-body cars has (see pics)
The hood and trunk shut smooth like they should. The hood does not have the typical dent up by the latch because I have always shut it properly.
The paint is the original paint and it is very obvious as it has orange peel that most all of them had. I would say for a car that is almost 30 years old and 57,000 miles, he original paint is in very nice condition. It is not checked, racked, r faded, ut if you get right up on it and look and focus, ou can see the outline of water spots a few places. I'm being very very picky here, specially for a gm factory paint job from the 80's, ut I want you to have a very accurate description. The paint is going to be hard to judge from the pictures because it is still so shiny and all you mostly see is the reflection of everything else. The pics of the top of the car did a very good job of reflecting the clouds in the sky, specially in the glass of the moon roof. Overall, ike I've already said, he factory paint is still in very nice condition, ut it certainly would not qualify for a show quality paint job. Look hard at the pics, nd again, 'm being very honest, t really does look better in person because I took all pics with the flash.
All 4 fender trim pieces are perfect condition. no dents in them and perfect paint on them.
All four bumper fillers are the original bumper fillers, owever, few years ago they where starting to cloud up, o I removed, ainted, nd reinstalled them. They have been perfect show quality ever since with no issues. While I had the bumpers off, also blasted, rimed, nd painted all 4 bumper shocks (see pics)
There is no pitting or corrosion on any of the wheels, nd the wheel caps are all perfect.
Additions:
All of these additions have been done by me, nd all of these are easily reverseable.
1. I have added a 145 speedo decal. It is simply a decal placed over the humorous factory 85 mph face plate. It does read the 145 mph speed correctly. If you would want to change it back to stock, imply remove the instrument cluster, emove the decal, ake the instrument cluster to your local speedometer shop and have them re calibrate it back to the stock 85 mph setting. They usually charge somewhere between 40 to 60 dollars. I wanted to leave this because it fits the car so much better, mo.
2. I also added factory looking VDO oil pressure gauge and a boost gauge. The factory boost gauge in these cars where never accurate from the factory. In the case of something happens that would cause the turbo to make more boost than the stock settings, ts nice to know exactly what the boost psi is so you don't tear up the engine. Obviously its always nice to know oil pressure. By leaving them, he new owner can see the car instantly makes good oil pressure when the car is started.
Both gauges work properly, ncluding the night time illumination. No holes where drilled to install them, nd the wiring was simply pushed inside the wiring loom of the engine harness to be hid and look factory. Its a very simple job should you decide to remove these.
3. Kirbans alternator light fix. These cars unfortunately have a charging system designed so that the alternator cannot charge the battery if the idiot light in the dash burns out. Kirban performance sells a wiring plug and play fix that remedys that issue. I took it one step further by actually wiring and soldering it right into the engine wiring harness itself just to help keep a clean look and looking factory. I would highly recommend never removing it.
4. I also swapped out the original rear license plate bracket for one with a spring that allows the license plate to stay down in a detent while filling the gas tank. There is no appearance difference from the stock license plate bracket.
5. The rear speakers are a much nicer sounding speaker than the stock acdelco's, o I left them in. You will be getting the original stock acdelco's with the car (see pics).
6. Aluminum bumper supports. All 84-86 Grand Nationals had the much lighter and more desired aluminum bumper supports bolted inside the bumpers. The 87's had steel, nd where very heavy. I installed perfect condition Aluminum bumper supports inside the bumpers while I had them off to paint the bumper fillers. The aluminum bumper fillers I installed where from a 86 Grand National. Should this bother you for car show points reasons, r some other reason, imply paint them black, s that is the only physical difference between the aluminum and steel, nd the steels where painted black.
7. Hooker Exhaust. I removed the original exhaust a few years ago and installed the Aluminized Hooker Exhaust system made specifically for these cars. It is a excellent fit, nd sounds perfect, ot loud, o drone. The original style exhaust for these cars are still available, nd can easily be reinstalled. I kept the original muffler hangars and media blasted/primed/painted them, nd they will go with the car (see pics). The hangars for the Hooker exhaust are simply bolted on, othing has ever been welded to the car.
8. Hydroboost brake system. I have installed Hydroboost brake unit from a 1984 Grand National. The original powermaster brake system from the factory was working perfectly when I removed it, nd will go with the car. Should you decide to reinstall it, t is a very easy job. The hydroboost and the powermaster both use the same pedal and brake lines. For a nice clean look, drilled a hole in the top of the power steering fluid reservoir for the return from the hydroboost. The hole would have to be plugged to reinstall the powermaster. I personally would not be happy with a plug as it wouldn't look factory. So I have a spare correct power steering fluid reservoir that will go with the car (see pics).
Unless you are planning to make this a trailered show car, would strongly recomend leaving the hydroboost unit installed. It is a much better and reliable unit than the powermaster. The powermasters where known to fail randomly, eaving you with brick hard brake pedal, r, edal all the way to the floor, ossibly causing a accident.
The hydroboost is very reliable and has as good, f not better braking power.
9. Lug nuts. I installed aftermarket lugnuts that appear the same as factory, ut they are much shinier, nd look way better. I have all the original lug nuts that will go with the car, lus some extra ones.
10. Hood Pad. I have installed a aftermarket hood pad that is much better quality and look than the original. If grease or dirt gets on it, imply wipe it off with a rag. The original is a insulation type texture, nd shows dirt and grease very easily, nd deteriorates over time. Should you not want the aftermarket hood pad on it, imply remove the plastic push-buttons and pull it off and reinstall the original. I have the original hood pad and it is in amazing condition, nd it will go with the car (see pics).
11. Turbotweek chip. I have installed a Turbotweek chip inside the ECM. This is a much better chip than the original. I do have the original chip and it will go with the car. The car still has the original radiator, o I had the chip customized to turn on the fans at the same time as the stock chip does.
12. Battery Tender plug in. I installed a simple battery tender plug in to make it easy to plug in when the car sits for long periods. This is a generic little wire plug in that is the same for all battery tenders. Obviously this is as easy as removing the battery bolts and taking it off.
13. This car has matching monroe shocks on all four corners. They are the best shocks money can buy, mo. They are approx 5 years old, nd obviously with no more miles than I've put on the car, arely broke in. The rear springs where also replaced with new ones when I installed the shocks.
14. Fuel Pump. I replaced the original fuel pump in the tank with a walbro 340 fuel pump. I also installed the plug-and-play Fuel pump hot wire kit from Kirban Performance. The hot wire kit is a common must-have on these cars being the factory wiring was not sufficient to power the pump and where known to not keep adequate voltage to the pump under boost. Should you not want the hot wire kit installed, imply remove it. No holes where drilled to install it.
Extras:
There will be some extra parts going with the car. Including a spare hydro boost pump and some other odds and ends. Extra astroroof trim, xtra hood buttons, nd some other misc things. I think I got most of them pictured.
I am also throwing in a very nice pioneer cd player that I had installed in it. It matches the color of the interior, o I always liked it. If you want, will reinstall it before you arrive. It is a simple plug and play and easy to reinstall.
All of the paperwork for any of the add-ons I did will go with it, long with a few misc receipts I have. All of the original new dealer paperwork and owners manual is there, nd going with it.
I also have the original factory envelope and instructions and tool for closing the astroroof in a emergency. Some spare headliner material, tc...
The car also will come with a car cover. its just a soft inside car cover, ot a outside. This car has always been kept inside my insulated garage. I think I got caught in the rain once with it the entire time I've owned it.
I will more than likely add some more parts before the auction ends also.
If you have any questions at all, on't hesitate to call me anytime at 3146067849. You are more than welcome to come look at the car before auction ends. I have seen cars with less than a quarter of the miles this car has, hat don't look or function anywhere near as nice as this one. This is one extremely nice mid-mile car, nd I have owned a few of these cars, nd seen hundreds of them over the years.
This car will be parked and covered until it sells. I will probably drive it for a 5 mile round trip the day before the new owner arrives just to make sure everything is good to go.
Title is free and clear in my name.
I need a immediate deposit of $100 cash or paypal within 24 hours of auction ends. The rest of the payment can be done in cash or any type of money order that my bank can immediatly transfer into my checking account. We will be going to my bank in town to do the cash and title transaction there after you have inspected the car.
If you are going to be driving this car away, ou will need to bring proof of insurance. If you don't have proof of insurance, ou must trailer it.
If you are bidding on this car, e sure to check the auction frequently as I am sure I have forgot some things and will update it.
Thanks for looking and reading. If you win this car, rint up this entire description and bring it with you and we will go through it line by line.

On Mar-16-16 at 19:36:56 PDT, eller added the following information:

have 2 revisions to make:
1. in the additions section of my description concerning the aluminum bumper supports (#6). It should read that the aluminum bumper supports where from a 86 Grand National, ot the bumper fillers.
2. I forgot to mention that this car has the low fuel warning light also. This was a option that the factory started, ut didn't finish. The idiot light was there for all 84-87 turbobuicks, ut did not function. I added the circuity board and light to make it functional, nd it does function correctly. When the fuel level reaches 1/4 tank, he low fuel light will illuminate. I also have the paperwork for that option.
