Description of 1970 Buick Other

For sale is a genuine 1970 Buick GS 455 Convertible. This GS is NOT a clone. Those who are not familiar with the Buick GS should know that it is truly one of the greatest. undiscovered muscle cars of it's era. 1970 was the pinnacle for all GM muscle cars. and the Buick was at the top of the chart with it's 510 ft. lbs. of torque. No muscle car or sports car had as much torque during this era. Horsepower was rated at 350. Only a total of 1. 16 Buick GS 455 Convertibles were built during the 1970 model year. Of that number. just 192 were ordered in Fire Red. Build date of my car was the 4th week of September. 1969. The car is painted in the original color of Fire Red. It was ordered with a white top and Pearl White interior that includes the Notchback split bench seat with fold down armrest. It was also ordered with the following options:--Tilt Steering Wheel--Turbo Hydramatic 400 [TH 400] Automatic Transmission--Power Steering + Power Brakes--AM Sonomatic Radio [not installed]--Chrome Plated 14" Rally Wheels [being sold with 15" Rally Wheels as seen in the photos/14" wheels are included. also]--G70-14 Wide Oval Redline Tires [being sold with BF Goodrich Radial T/As. as seen in the photos]--Soft Ray Tinted Windshield--Remote Control Outside Mirror [being sold with dual manual GSX-style mirrors]--Door Edge Guards [not present]I purchased this vehicle approximately 3 years ago. It was sold new from Staal Buick in 1969. Prior to my purchasing of the car. it was owned by a gentleman for about 8 years. He bought it with the same paint and interior currently on the car. Prior to him. it was owned for approximately 22 years by a gentleman that to restored the car. He painted it in 1987. and the paint has held up very well. I receive compliments on a daily basis when the car is driven around town. When painted in 1987. the GSX striping was added to the car. There is a visual flaw in the paint--a small pop of body filler on the lower right 1/4 panel. just in front of the rear wheel well [see last photo]. Otherwise. the paint is very bright and has a nice shine. and had been waxed regularly. As for the mechanical condition of the car. it is very strong. The odometer reads just over 67. 00 miles. and the title reads as actual. After rebuilding the entire front suspension. and seeing that the original riveted-in ball joints were still on the car. I believe these miles are accurate. The original transmission is still in the car [with the VIN stamped on the driver's side of the housing]. The engine is from a 1971 Buick GS. and was installed in the car well before the previous 2 owners. so some time in the 70s or early 80s. It is stamped "TR" showing that it came out of a 1971 GS. The previous owner had re-gasketed both the engine and transmission in 2010. He also had a new convertible top with glass rear window installed in 2009. It is in very good condition and functions perfectly. After purchasing this car. I began to go through all of the mechanicals of the vehicle. Here is a list of most of what was done to the car:--Original 2. 93 Rear Axle was completely rebuilt. out of the car. All internals are either new or rebuilt. A new Eaton Posi-Traction unit was added to help keep those 510 ft. lbs. of torque under control. The housing was professionally repainted. as well--Brand new Brake Drums. Shoes. and Hardware were installed on all 4 corners--New Spark Plugs. Wires. Distributor Cap. Rotor. Points. and Condenser--Re-manufactured Distributor--New Alternator--New AC Delco heavy-duty battery--New Moroso rubber/steel trans pan gasket+all new external O-rings--New Fuel Tank--New Fuel Tank Sending Unit--New Transmission Crossmember and Rubber isolators--Numbers-Matching Quadrajet Carburetor [7040240] rebuilt by Cliff's High Performance--New 4 Row [4 Core] Radiator--New Thermostat Housing+Thermostat--Regular Oil Changes with 10w30 Valvoline Racing Oil w/ZDDP--New Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses--New Air filter and PCV filter--New Belts--Dash Bezel was removed and all new instrument cluster bulbs were replaced--New Dash Woodgrain Kit installedA TOTAL front suspension rebuild with Moog Problem-Solver parts was done. These components are all American-made. and have a lifetime warranty. Every component was replaced. including: --Upper & Lower Ball Joints --Inner and Outer Tie Rods + Adjusting Sleeve --Center Link --Idler Arm --Upper & Lower Control Arm Bushings --Stabilizer links and Bushings --Control Arm Shaft KitI replaced the suspension bushings on a 1967 GTO several years ago. I used urethane bushings. but never liked the ride they gave. You will be amazed at how smooth of a ride this Buick has with high-quality rubber components. As for the interior of the car. the carpeting is in great condition. The seat covers were replaced some time in the early 90s. and look really good. There are no tears at all. The Rallye Steering Wheel is in good shape. and has no cracks at all. The dash lenses are the pointed style [used on early 1970 GSs. until a production change in January. 1970]. and are in great shape. The tilt column is tight and has NO play or slop in it at all. Turn signals. headlights. brights switch. flashers. and radio [only FM] and cassette all work well. Rear speakers are installed in the factory position behind the back seat steel divider. The Convertible Top functions perfectly. and the motor and pump keep great pressure. All 4 pieces of side glass [LOF] are original with their date codes visible. Windshield is PPG. The undercarriage is in solid condition. Most importantly. the frame is solid with no holes or soft spots. The driver's side floorpan was repaired in the 80s. as was the trunk pan. The only spot of rust perforation is a hole on the driver's side floor support on the underside. approximately 3 inches around. Floor supports. floor pans. and trunk pans are cheap and readily available. The quarter panels and fenders are all original. with minor patchwork done in the 80s. This car starts and runs perfectly every time. It's a very powerful. strong-running car that turns heads and gets thumbs-up on a daily basis. Exhaust is 2 1/4". and has a great rumble. it sounds like a 455 cubic inch motor should. It is not a trailer queen. the only time it ever saw a trailer is when I had it transported from Michigan to Ohio. I drive the car to and from work on a daily basis during the warmer months. During the winter months. it has been kept in dry storage. It is in great "driver-quality" condition. I have the Sloan Museum Documentation showing the originality and authenticity of this car. It is NOT a clone. I also have a folder with receipts. dating back to about 1986. going through till the present. I encourage any interested buyer to inspect the Buick. It can be done most any time. by appointment. Email me with any questions. I will get back with you promptly. I will answer ALL questions with complete honesty as I know it is difficult to purchase a vehicle from a far distance. Also. I will be glad to assist in setting up transportation of this car. wherever it ends up going. Thank you for looking. and Good Luck!
