Description of 1981 Buick Regal Indy Pace Car 500 Replica

This is a "No Reserve" auction so please do not bid unless you are willing to pay and have the funds for your bid amount. The last person who won the auction had the lame excuse that his employee bought it without his consent and that he didn't have the funds for the vehicle. This is a great car, please don't ruin it for others. Thank you and on to the description...

I am selling an extremely rare 1981 Indy Pace Car Replica. Buick only made 150 and numbered them on a sequential dash plaque, just like the GNX. This Buick was the precursor to the Grand Nationals and was the first vehicle to show the Molly's V6 logo. Every one of the replicas were driven on the Indianapolis 500 track by a race car driver.

This Pace Car Replica is an extremely low number (number 005) which makes it more valuable. Number 001 is in the Indy 500 museum and 002 was given to the Buick Sloan museum in Flint, Michigan. There are only two other cars with lower numbers that were offered to the public and it was rumored Dale Ernhardt bought the number 3 car (for obvious reasons).

These vehicles are almost impossible to find. It took over 9 years of searching the internet, watching eBay and online forums before I found this one. Most of them have rotted away. I only know of three other people that have them and one is rotted away (as I thought about purchasing it, but it had too much rust and would have been an extremely expensive frame off project).

The Pace Cars Replicas have T-tops (besides the first two that are unavailable to the public...you can see pictures online).

The exterior is painted in metallic silver and maple (dark maroon) with orange, maple and brown race striping. They have shadow Buick emblems on the back quarters and the trunk. The front fenders have the large V6 emblem.

The interior was different for the first two vehicles and all the rest had maroon bucket seats, a maroon rear bench, maroon dash and maroon carpet.

The engine is a 3.8-liter V6 231 with 120K miles. The Buick also has the specialty wrapped steering wheel, aftermarket rims (but the originals com with it), 005 dash plaque, original T-top covers and original documentation.

The original MSRP in 1981 was $11,461.44

It has 120K miles, but good luck trying to find another one...ever. You can buy Buick Turbos, Buick Grand Nationals and even one of the 547 GNXs, but these are all but extinct.

No specialty collection is complete without this piece of racing history. It gets a lot of attention and lot of questions.

I only accept cash in person or a wire transfer.

This vehicle is sold "as is" and the buyer is responsible for shipping.

I also have been on eBay for over 20 years and have had a perfect feedback rating, which I am very proud of. Buy with confidence and enjoy something that only a very select few have.

Don't have bidder remorse on this one. Once its gone its gone and you'll have that to think about over the next 20 years.
