Description of 1937 Buick Other |
This car was originally sold to a banker in Eastern Washington. He drove it until his death when it was inherited by his son. The son drove it a little bit for several years. It's a 4 door trunk back sedan with a 248CID displacement. The vehicle had an interior restoration sometime in the 70's and repainted from it's original Botticelli Blue to another 1937 factory Buick color. Van Gough Green. After a few years it was sold to a gentleman in Hood River. Oregon who owned it for about 3 years. didn't drive it very much and sold it to me in 2000. The vehicle has always been garaged. When I purchased this vehicle the odometer showed 46. 00 miles and the seller represented to me it was the actual mileage. It now has 51. 00 miles. From what I have been able to find out the car had a base price of $970 and came from the factory with 3 options. running board moldings. radio. and a heater bringing the price up to about $1038. In 2003 I had the engine. transmission. rear end. radiator. starter. generator. fuel pump. clutch rebuilt. In addition a new wiring harness was installed using period correct materials. One of the country's most knowledgeable and respected individuals. in 1937-1938 Buick engines. rebuilt the engine. transmission. clutch and rear end. Based upon his recommendations the pistons were changed to 1940 Buick notched pistons. the block was bored out 30 over. carburetor was updated to the more reliable 1940 carter 2 bbl. bearings were changed to a more modern style. The water pump was also changed to the more reliable mid 1938 style to overcome the leaking problem of the original design. These changes slightly increased the compression and the vehicle now puts out about 110 HP. New exhaust system was also added. Both bumpers. bumper guards and front shark tooth radiator were all rechromed. New OEM hub caps were also installed. The front suspension was completely replaced as well as all brake linings replaced including new wheel cylinders and new spring hardware. The car still rides on original style bias ply tube type tires. Now for the items that need attention. The radio was rebuilt but currently does not work. The gas gauge never worked as well as the horn. The starter was rebuilt and a new regulator installed at the time of the major engine overhaul. The emergency brake cables were replaced but the slack in the main cable has not been adjusted therefore excessive slack. The running boards are original. At the base of the trunk toward the right side there are approx 8 small bubbles. about the size of a pencil erasure or smaller. been there since I've had it. Very light surface rust is visible on the front floor boards. Since the overhaul I've put about 1000 miles on the car. It is a fantastic runner. will maintain freeway speed and then some with the best of them. It's fun to drive. gets a lot of looks. and has won many awards. I've added Trippe Senior driving lights. although they are just for show. The license plates that are presently on the vehicle are not included in the sale. If the purchaser is from Oregon another set of 1937 Oregon plates will be provided. This is good. solid. original vehicle. Contact: Dick Phone: 503-646-7009 Email: watch950@aol. com |
