Description of 1954 Cadillac DeVille

1954 Cadillac Series 62 two door hardtop Coupe.

I see plenty of flowery descriptions of some cars for sale that do not describe the PARTICULAR CAR presented. I think those descriptions are a waste of words.

But when you have a car that has its OWN personal Story, t should be shared. The history and description of this car is presented in part as follows:

Several years ago I got a call from a woman that told me she had been a member of the Cadillac Club for many years and her family were all Cadillac Drivers. She told me, he was the “last one left” and wanted to know that her Cadillacs would be taken care of.

Her description to me of THIS 1954 Series 62 coupe is as follows in her words: “This 54 was purchased when near new for my mother and taken to our winter home in high desert California country. (where I got the car) Mom was elderly and Dad most always drove her where she needed to go. It is a very small town and not much need to drive. Mom eventually had a couple small fender benders and Dad told her if she did it again he would take the keys away and end her driving days. Shortly after, ure enough, om wrecked the front fender and Dad parked the Cadillac outside next to the garage.”

OK, ow after more than two years of her calling ME about her FOUR Cadillacs, finally had a chance to have a couple friends volunteer to go have a look at her Cadillacs. The town is located several hours from me and not an easy place to go with car trailers and help for all the cars she wanted me to take home. The friends visit report told me yes, needed to go. Anyway, ventually a deal was struck and I made the trip after many more months of talking. Well, he is no longer with us, hope she found the great Cadillac Club in the Sky.

The coupe was as she said- Outside right there where it was parked in 1970. Three of the tires were flat- I thought OK, ay as well see if they hold air--- They did—some appeared to be ORIGINAL tires… Opening the trunk, saw that it was dry and solid. Original cardboard side panels, riginal trunk mat. Looks like her Dad had an aftermarket Air Conditioning unit he was going to install and a new set of tail pipes. These parts will go with the car.Inside the car was certainly dry from the desert sun. But totally original including carpet. Nice to see the options EZE-EYE glass original and the Autronic Eye. Inside the glove box was dry and in good shape and the latch/lock worked. Floors were very good with driver side showing years of exposure, would say that floor pan piece should probably be replaced.. It is not gone, ust very soft. When I changed the tire the blew, took photos of the wheel house NICE-- Back side of fender skirt EXCELENT! and the original wheel with factory red paint. Nice Nice!

Under hood the rubber hoses, elts and air vent hose had dried up and were mostly gone. Yes, he glass jar for the windshield washer was there (wrapped it up and put it in a padded box) The windows rolled up and down, oors hood and trunk work like new. It is so NICE to find an original Cadillac that has not been worked over and covered up with paint to hide whatever may be a source of trouble—I LIKE this car!

Engine condition totally unknown. I have not put in a battery to see what happens. I have not tried to turn it by hand. The car sat outside for 45 years--- Think about that--- FOURTY FIVE YEARS Outside--- It is in amazing condition for being neglected for that length of time.

Title is a clear California title issued in 1959. I don’t know when they first bought the car and I have not ordered the original sales documents from GM Media Archives. It would be interesting to see who the ordering dealer was.

Hate to let this one go. But I fear I am just not going to have enough time left for all the cars I own. AND the DANG COUNTY Officials tell me I have to many cars… How About THAT? Just how any is too many and why do THEY have any business deciding? OK—off the soap box---

The car is For Sale—Give it a good home.

I encourage you to look at ALL the pictures. I have MORE pictures I can send if you need to see more. I also have a video I can share.

I will INCLUDE with the car another right front fender and trim. Although, GOOD bodyman CAN fix the original fender and the trim part is stainless so it can be fixed.
