Description of 1940 Cadillac Fleetwood

!!NO RESERVE!! Partially restored 1940 Cadillac 60 Special Fleetwood 4 door Sedan.

I inherited this car from my father. He had a shop here in Northwest Iowa tear the engine down completely to the block. The cylinders were good and didn't need to be bored, ut they did replace the rings and bearings. At that same time, hey went through the carburetor, uel pump and the brakes. He installed new tires as well. He drove it from the shop back to Des Moines where it has been sitting for many years. The exterior is in remarkably good shape with all the original chrome and fixtures. There is some topical rust as evident in the photos, ut it is just that, opical. The interior also has much of the original elements which would make this a great restoration project. I'm selling to make room in the garage for my wife and daughters.

The Series 60 Special was the first car completely styled for GM by William Mitchell, rotege of Harley Earl. Harley Earl was the chief of color and design at General Motors. This was one of his special endeavors.

The car features a heavily chromed dashboard around the radio area. You can still find the preset radio stations with call numbers from Clear Channel stations which were available at night issued from low wattage stations. Fleetwood made the custom bodies in Fleetwood, A outside Reading. The front features squared-off modern 'pontoon' fenders. The 60s has a hand throttle common in cars in the 1940's. This Fleetwood has a three-speed selective synchromesh manual transmission with gear changer on the steering column near the banjo style steering wheel.

The engine is an overhead valve 346 cubic inch flathead V8, ffering 135 horsepower. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. A V16 was available for the big Cadillacs in 1940. This is a long, leek ride with a 127 inch wheelbase chassis. Bumper guards in tact. Running boards which had been a fixture are gone on this model replaced by hidden running boards.

Restored versions of this model are selling for $50k+. Email with any questions.
