Description of 1973 Cadillac DeVille

This 1973 Cadillac Coupe DeVille is a recent estate rescue. Mostly all-original condition, t runs, rives and shifts, ut still needs attention to be roadworthy. Great start for a restoration or other project. It shows 34,000 miles, hich I believe to be original, nd it's nicely loaded with options.

Although these cars were available with a 500 cubic inch engine, his one is equipped with the 'economy model' 472, nd a four barrel carburetor. The engine is quiet, t does not smoke or knock, ut the idle is not as smooth as it should be, nd blow-by is present. It has a brand new, rass/copper radiator, s well as a new alternator and fuel pump. The car leaks no fluids. The transmission shifts, nd the suspension feels tight, nd the ride quality is excellent. Three of the tires are very vintage Primero LR70-15 inch steel belted radials, ith beautiful, arrow pinstripe white walls. They have minimal dry rot, ut probably are no longer safe for highway use due to their age. The fourth tire appears to be newer, ut still 1980s vintage, nd should be replaced immediately. The factory disc brakes and variable ratio power steering both work very well.

The color is code #64, Mirage Taupe Metallic', light brownish-silver. First year color, or a $128 upcharge, nd the padded vinyl roof was a $152 option. This car was produced at the Clark Street plant in Detroit, nd then purchased new at Brooks Cadillac in Scottsdale, rizona, n September 19, 972, few weeks later. I don't have a whole lot of documentation, ut what I do have suggests that the car remained in Arizona until the original owner's son obtained it in 1996 and brought it to Missouri. It has changed hands twice since then. The condition of the body and trim are exceptional, ncluding the chrome bumpers, ide trim, ll four wheel covers and more. There is NO exterior rust-through of the body, ut the inner structure of the under side of the trunk lid does have rust-through in a number of spots. The car shows most of it's original factory paint job, ut the driver side fender and door have had some kind of repair, ong ago. Like so many GM vinyl top cars of this era, t will need rust repair at the lower corners of the rear window, lthough there are no holes visible. The bumpers are straight and excellent, ith fantastic chrome and no pits. The stainless trim on the sides is also very good, very bright, ith one tiny ping just above the driver's fender skirt. All of the lower stainless trim, n the rockers and above, s all in very good condition, lso very bright, ith a slight amount of road grit etching on the forward facing pieces of trim on the fender skirts.

The interior is 'medallion' brocade cloth with vinyl trim, n dark taupe color. The fabric is nice, hows little wear, nd most importantly, he vinyl is still very supple, n the padded door and side panels, s well as the seats. The lower passenger side of the rear seat is stained as shown. There are no cracks in the dashpad. The AM/FM 8-track player was a $416 option! It works, ut the tape plays slowly, ikely due to disuse. A more popular, ut also expensive option was the automatic climate control for $523. Other great options include tilt and telescope steering column, on-working power antenna, wilight sentinel, xterior mirror with thermometer, able-operated remote passenger side mirror, ower windows and locks. Both rear quarter window regulators and tracks were recently removed, leaned and lubricated, nd work well. Cruise control is not operational. More options include six-way power driver's seat, orking, theft deterrent system, emote trunk release, nd trunk ajar warning light, ap reading lamp, nd litter container. The original thick pile carpeting is not worn, ut shows noticeable stains, articularly in the rear pans. Original, adillac crest interior floor mats are in rough condition, ot shown, ut are included. The headliner and dome lenses are excellent. The air conditioning is non operational, ut is complete. The head lights, ornering lights, urn signals, tail lights, rake lights, nd windshield wipers are all working. The washer pump and horn are currently non-operational.

The underside shows surface rust but nothing appears structural. The floor pans are in good condition, s well as the trunk pan and braces. It has had water leakage in the trunk, nd the trunk carpet and cards show water damage. There are no holes rusted through the trunk floor, ut the mat appears to be glued in and I did not remove it. The floor and braces all look solid from underneath. pic Drive and enjoy the patina as it is, r this is a great foundation for a very easy restoration. I appreciate what a fine car this Cadillac is, nd I feel confident you will too.
