Description of 1924 Chevrolet Other

OVERVIEW:
This is a very rare 1924 Chevrolet Superior Series F, passenger, door coupe. This was a new body style for Chevrolet introduced this year, nd with its wider doors was often marketed towards women as they allowed for more graceful entry into and exit from the auto.
The Superior 4 passenger coupe sold for $725, nd weighed in at 2,005 lbs.
These models were introduced on August 1st, 923 and featured improved straight front axles and improved external contracting rear brakes utilizing brake rods.
It carries serial # 9B36748. The data tag also displays SM-7247, eaning unknown.

The overhead valve 4 cylinder engine has a displacement of 171 ci. and is rated at 26 horsepower.

This particular vintage Chevrolet was acquired by its present family in 1984 from Regina, askatchewan in western Canada. It was the subject of an extensive and thorough, igh quality restoration which was completed in the mid 1990's. The wood structure was painstakingly and totally reconstructed of new oak hardwood by the owner, nd was photo documented. Experienced club members as well as professional craftsmen were involved as required to restore the car to the high standard the owner was pursuing.

To most this car will show as a #1 condition. Although a few very minor blemishes and paint chips may cause the most critical of eyes and judges to consider it a strong #2 at worst.
Current presentation shows some dust and such from its few outings and garage storage, ost evident on the chassis. Some time spent on light cleaning and detailing would quickly reveal that this car would still show virtually as fresh as the day its restoration was completed.

In the years since completion it has been on several outings and to shows, ut was always trailered, nd as such only shows 53 driven miles on the odometer. It is believed to be the only one of its kind registered in Canada. This rare coupe is one of those wonderful and correct restorations that occasionally surface. It would be perfectly at home in a museum or in the hands of a discerning collector, hile being up to the task of providing enjoyment in parades and local outings.

DRIVETRAIN:
The four cylinder engine has been completely restored with nothing left to chance. It starts easily and sounds good with no unusual noises.
As with any of these old girls, hey run smoothest in the hands of someone who knows how to find the sweet spot between advance and retard on the spark control, alanced with the right amount of throttle.

All components on and around the engine appear as original equipment and in good condition, ven to the original style coil.
The honeycomb radiator appears in very good condition, opped off with a Chevrolet script moto-meter.
The engine bay is very clean and detailed.
The only visible anomaly noticed is the use of some orange silicone sealant at the carb, o fuel leakage was noted.

The transmission is a 3-speed with floor shifter.
The rear axle ratio is 3.82:1.

CHASSIS:
This Chevrolet rides on a 103"wheelbase. The frame does not appear to have ever been heavily rusted as there is no evidence of serious or heavy pitting.
The frame and all chassis components were sandblasted and painted, nd today are simply dusty.
All chassis components were either fully restored or replaced with new as required and available.

The brakes are rear contracting using rod linkages.
Suspension is 4 leaf springs, ll of which appear in good order with positive arch.

All chassis components appear correct and as original, ncluding the muffler.
Original style grease fittings appear throughout and there are no signs of oil leaks.


The painted wood spoke wheels are fitted with blackwall Good Year Clincher 30 x 3.5"tires in virtually new condition. There is a matching rear mounted spare tire.
The steel felloes and hardware are cadmium plated. Hubcaps are very nice.

BODY & PAINT:
The body woodwork is all new and constructed of oak.
The fit of all panels is very good, s is the fit and operation of all door latches and window regulators.

The car was overall quite straight and rust free prior to restoration.
All body panels and sheet metal are very straight.
The superior paint work on the car was professionally done, he quality is excellent and evident is all areas of prep, inish, nd shine. Note the clarity of the reflections in the paint in the pics and you should be able to appreciate how nice it is.

The paint scheme is original, one in single stage urethane which gives the car an authentic looking finish.
There are only some minor chips that have occurred over the years since completion. The worst would be along the belt line at the left rear corner of the body where a few round spots likely reveal the location of screw or nail heads. Likely caused by minor movement in the wood, ossibly due to temperature changes.

There is about a ¼"chip on the front of the left rear fender, ith some minor ones along the edge. There are a few other very minor ones on the right fenders, ut that's about it. Any other specs and such you may be seeing in the pics are primarily just dust and such showing up in the sun.
All these could be corrected with some minor touch ups of the black paint.

The top material is in very nice condition, s is the rest of the car overall.
The owner's attention to detail can be seen in such things as the directional alignment of the slot head screws in the top material retainer moldings and the running board step plates and edge moldings.

INTERIOR:
The seats are very nicely upholstered in correct period material and color, nd they are comfortable to sit on.

Rear seat passengers are provided with a storage compartment where ladies could keep their purse or opera glasses, nd there is a storage compartment under the driver seat.

Nice fitting headliner, nd flooring underfoot is ribbed rubber.
The rear window blind is not installed but is in the trunk. The end brackets for it are in place above the rear window.
Nice door panels. Garnish moldings are painted wood. Correct leather door stop straps.

Chevrolet advertising promoted the seating arrangement as follows:
"Single, omfortable driver's seat, mple room for two in the rear seat, nd a fourth folding seat for an extra passenger."

Nice steering wheel, o cracks.
Pedal pads show no wear.
All glass is new, lear, nd all glass channels are new as well.

BRIGHTWORK:
All brightwork is newly plated chrome and is overall in excellent show quality condition.
Bumpers are excellent.
Headlight bezel rings are very good with only a couple very minor repair blemishes.
The radiator grille shell is correctly painted black as opposed to plated.
Nice enamel bow tie emblem on rad shell.
Fisher body tag on lower right cowl.
Original gas cap is cad plated.

Nice door handles both in and out, nd eagle locks.
All interior bright trim such as instrument bezels are also very nice.

ELECTRICAL:
All new wiring harness in correct cloth covered wire and loom.
Equipped with an Eveready vacuum wiper motor.

Gauges are ammeter and oil pressure in nice condition.
Speedometer has trip odometer, hite on speedo is slightly soiled.

Original headlamp lenses are ‘SmithLens', n very nice condition with a very slight purple tint. Reflectors are new, nd they have correct shielded wiring and connectors.

One tail lamp with glass lens and ‘Superior Chevrolet' scripted bracket.
The car has not been equipped with turn signals.

SUMMARY:
This is as nice a restoration as you may hope to find on such a rare little coupe. It is unique in its seating arrangement and was touted as such by Chevrolet, ometimes referred to as an ‘opera coupe' by some.

As a passionate and longtime vintage auto enthusiast, he owner devoted countless hours and tremendous commitment to the task of its authentic resurrection. Now, ith some time since his passing, is family has decided to make this special Chevrolet available to its next caretaker.
