Description of 19680000 Chevrolet Camaro RALLY SPORT

You are bidding on a 100% original Numbers matching 1968 Camaro Convertible Rally Sport .

This one has the very desirable L30 327/275HP engine (Suffix EA) with the original 4 speed transmission (M20 wide ratio code R8T20) and factory installed matching 12 bolt 3:07 positraction rear code BR.

This is a NO Rust original panel car. It only had one respray it is original Corvette Bronze(code OO) back in the late 1980s. This car starts and runs perfect. It also has perfectly working power top. This car is a true survivor. It does have some patina as seen but very nice overall as shown.

I have looked at many convertible Camaros and I have seen very few with original metal, long with even fewer having original spatter paint in the trunk.

The original matching 4BBL carburetor even has correct fast idle kick down. No Smoke, o Noise, nd Shifts perfect. The RS headlights open and close with a vacuum headlamp switch.

The car is fitted with new Redline radials, ounted on original GM rally wheels. It also comes with the original steel wheels and Factory Mag Camaro Hubcaps.

I purchased this car last year from an estate sale from the 2nd owner.

He was an executive of famous Lehman Brothers of NY NY and was killed in Florida riding his Harley Davidson in Jan of 2014. He had purchased the car from the original owner a senator in MA. in 1992. I have documentation and photos proving this also.

The 1967-682 RPO (regular production option) combination of the L30 327ci-275HP V8 engine with the M20 4-speed manual transmission created a true high-performance automobile, n part due to additional components automatically installed by the factory when the 4-speed was paired with the L30 engine. The details of this package were poorly documented and essentially unadvertised; probably only the most discerning people of the era realized the implications. The writers and editors of period car enthusiast magazines rarely delved deeper into available options than the basic promotional literature supplied by Chevrolet, nd the Chevrolet marketers preferred to emphasize the SS models, r later, he Z28. Serious racers considered the SS and Z28 to be only starting points, ith further modifications required to meet their needs. So it was not well-known that the L30/M20 Camaro was the only regular production 1967-68 Camaro outside of the SS/Z28 models to receive the heavy-duty "12-bolt" rear-end, ight-side radius rod (in 1967), nd multi-leaf rear springs (in 1968), s well as additional performance equipment otherwise exclusive to the SS or Z28 Camaros. The L30/M20 could easily be mistaken for a SS-350 stripped of ornamentation (if the 327 was mistaken for a 350), r, f the 327ci engine was recognized as such, he L30/M20 could be considered evidence of a factory SS-327.

As far as documentation this car comes with original owners manual, arranty protect-o- plate, he (only 2) previous owners names and addresses, nbsp;all original body stampings in correct locations, nbsp;power train component with original numbers matching stampings and/or date codes, nd shown paperwork as shown. This car even has the original working smog pump system.

This car has original actual documented 76,600 miles.

lots of questions protect to plate is regarding a Chevrolet.

So what is a Protect-o-Plate (POP) anyway and where can I find it?

The Protect-o-Plate was a small stamped metal plate that was sent, y the factory, ith each vehicle produced. It was stamped with basic identification data about components like engine, arburetor, ransmission and rear axle. It also contained factory installed options and the month of manufacture. When the vehicle was sold the dealer would add the customer's name to the metal plate with Dymo-type stamped plastic adhesive strips. The data on a Protect-o-plate is stamped on an 8 row by 30 column grid at predefined locations. Instructions for stamping the plate was in the assembly manual for each year. The decoding instructions were included in parts manuals, ervice manuals and bulletins.

The Protect-o-Plate was given to the original owner. It was NOT riveted to the fire wall ...that's the trim tag or cowl tag. Unfortunately most Protect-o-Plates where lost or discarded soon after purchase.
