Heat. Vinyl Interior. Owner's Manual SELLER REMARKS This 1958 Chevy 3100 looks enough like the rare. high-end Cameo pickup to fool the casual observer. but its price is about 1/3 that of its flashier sibling. making it a very smart buy. It's got a great-running small block V8. a manual gearbox. and a fantastic color combination. and to make it even more appealing. it's available for a fraction of the restoration cost. The modest yellow paint is pretty close to this truck's original Colonial Cream color. and it gives the working-class hauler an upscale look that's sporty. not basic. It's got mostly original sheetmetal. including the fenders. doors. and bed sides. The '58 Chevys were some of the best-looking pickups of the period and remain hugely popular today. with details from the auto lineup including the quad headlights and big wrap-around bumpers. skillfully blending the two lines. The bed has been fully restored and uses inner fenders from a late-model C10. a new front panel. and a new oak and stainless bed kit. so it looks absolutely gorgeous. For style points. the tailgate chains have been removed and the CHEVROLET block letters are painted contrasting black so they really stand out. Much of the chrome has been replaced. including the door handles and bumpers. but the front fender spears are original and in very good condition. representing one of the truck's defining features. The simple interior doesn't stray too far from the original version. with a comfortable black vinyl bench seat big enough for three passengers. Black carpets on the floor are a luxurious addition that helps with noise and heat while giving it a more polished look. The contrasting black and yellow door panels and dash offer a wonderful '50s sensibility and the V-shaped instrument panel looks a lot like the one they were putting in Chevy passenger cars at the same time. For the most part. it's stock. including the knobs. the steering wheel. and the gauges. but there's also a shiny aluminum shifter for the Muncie 4-speed underneath as well as an aftermarket turn signal unit on the side of the steering column. as turn signals were still optional on pickups in 1958. The lone options here are a heater and defroster. but the truck's simplicity doesn't seem to demand much more and it's so much fun to drive. you won't miss the other stuff. A lot of that fun comes from a strong-running 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood. Dressed in chrome and Chevy Orange. it isn't pretending to be an original 283. but rather something you'd be proud of every time you go to the local cruise night. The inner fenders could use a quick clean up. because it's been used. after all. but there are no major issues that need your attention. A 4-barrel carburetor and an aluminum intake manifold make it feel strong on the road and the dual exhaust system has a pleasant burble that's never annoying. Underneath. there's a lot of originality but also signs of recent work. including some new cross-members for the Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and a fully rebuilt rear end with highway-friendly 3. 38 gears inside. so this is a truck that can be used. you know. as a real truck. Chrome steelies with baby moon hubcaps give it a traditional look and carry 235/70/15 white letter radials all around. Values on these trucks are moving up very quickly. and it's likely that the asking price today will seem like a bargain tomorrow.
