1928 Chevrolet Four Door National Sedan
Best-known simply as the National, hevrolet's Series AB National line of 1928 succeeded the AA Capitol of 1927. With only 58,044 original miles, iding upon a four-inch longer 107-inch wheelbase, he National was one of the first projects undertaken by famed GM chief stylist Harley Earl and his GM Art and Colour Studio. In addition to their updated styling, he Series AB models represented the end of an era, ith power delivered by the final development of Chevrolet's venerable 171 cubic-inch inline four-cylinder engine.
One of the marque's first automobile engines, hevrolet's 171 was designed by Arthur Mason and launched in 1913. An overhead-valve design with exposed pushrods and a detachable crossflow-cylinder head, t was advertised by Chevrolet as a "valve-in-head" engine and respected as a more modern alternative to the flathead designs of the competition. Displacement remained unchanged throughout its production run the ended in 1928. The carburetor, tarter, enerator, ater pump, nd vacuum-type fuel pump were rebuilt, nd new belts, oses, nd battery cables were fitted, long with a new oil filter. The wood-spoke wheels and tires are reported to remain in great condition, nd the tires are equipped with new inner tubes. A particularly desirable update is the addition of a set of four-wheel disk brakes for improved stopping. Offered complete with a clear title, his 1928 National AB handsomely represents the final model-year of Chevrolet's early four-cylinder models.
