Description of 1959 Chevrolet El Camino : Show Quality Mild Custom :

1959 Chevrolet El Camino

Highly restored
Fresh 327 motor
Air-Ride suspension

Here up for bids is this very sharp '59 El Camino. This car was just released from long term ownership in one of Oregon's largest car collections. A Van Nuys built car, this El Camino features show quality paint over laser straight panels, an air ride suspension, and a freshly built 327 mated to a TH350 transmission.

As you know, black cars are not easy to get right. This car will not disappoint, the paintwork is truly impressive, and the sheet metal underneath even more so. The car is arrow straight and produces optical quality reflections. Panel fit is all excellent, and there's zero rust issues anywhere. The 3rd photo below shows the range of the air suspension, infinitely adjustable for any look you want. Wheels are Budnik Famosa's wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport 9000's showing good tread.

California bumpers front and rear have been rechromed and look great. The body is free of any dents, dings or scratches - super clean throughout.

Lights and lenses are all in good shape. Grill is straight and clean. All of the car's trim is original and some of it shows small dings here and there. Nothing too terrible, but if I had to pick on the car this would be it. A little straightening and polishing could bring it up a level.

All of the glass is in good condition, the windshield is an AGP replacement and is crystal clear. 4th photo below shows an example of some of the dings you'll find scattered about the trim.

The tonneau cover is in great shape and has perfect fit. Bed is original, has no rust issues and is still looking good after 57 years. The tailgate's gutter is in terrific condition.

Nicely redone interior with all new materials.

The original steering wheel has been fitted to a later model tilt column. Gauges have been updated to Boyd's units, they all show good readings. The speedometer reading is off due to the new wheel size. Other issues include an in-op radio and horn. Air-ride controls have been discreetly tucked away in the ash tray door. Heater and fan both work and the kick panel ventilation doors open and close easily.

Nice sill plates and weatherstripping. Doors open and close precisely, windows wind smoothly, locks all work.

The 327 has about 100 miles on a fresh rebuild and carries a 2 year warranty. It fires instantly and runs very strongly, just a really smooth engine with good power and a great exhaust note. Heads have hardened seats for unleaded fuel. Exhaust manifolds have been ceramic coated. The car cruises along straight and square, it brakes well and the transmission has fantastic crisp shifts.

Quite a bit of chrome work here, I'll be including chromed covers for the exhaust manifolds if you feel the engine bay isn't quite dressed up enough!
