BODYWORK/TRIM

Assembled at GM's storied St. Louis manufacturing facility on June 13th, 1966, and rolling out of a professional restoration in the summer of 2016, this 2-owner drop-top currently reflects correct code 974 Rally Red 2-stage. That bright pigment highlights a sea of solid fiberglass that, thanks to the body-off rebuild conducted by Kernersville, North Carolina's Phoenix Restoration, presents exceptionally well. Of course, that fiberglass wouldn't be as solid had the car not spent the first 47 years of its existence in the possession of one loving family. Initially racing the Chevy, in its early life, that family eventually settled into enjoying the car on sunny weekends. Unfortunately, roughly 42 years into that enjoyment, its primary owner fell ill, and the Vette was officially relegated to storage. The current owner of the car, an admirer for over 25 years, finally acquired it as a virtually untouched survivor that had traveled only 39,750 miles. And today, roughly three years later, this vintage cruiser is a clean, well-maintained classic that provides a combination of style and reliability not normally found in moody trailer queens or butch barn builds.

Being a low-mileage, 1-owner survivor, there's no doubt this roadster was well taken care of. That said, being improperly stored and essentially forgotten for close to half a decade definitely took its toll. That meant every piece of chrome on the car had to be replaced or completely refurbished. At the front of this old school street queen, bullet-style marker lights, mirrored bumpers and a red, white and black cross-flag emblem cage a stainless egg crate grille. Behind that grille, a '66-exclusive big block hood flows to polished wipers which, along with polished stainless trim, frame a factory-tint greenhouse. Above that glass, correct White vinyl complements a correct Rally Red hardtop, as per the included original Window Sticker. At the sides of those roofs, vertical scallops ride amid traditional door handles, a classy bowtie mirror, finned rocker guards and prominent "427 TURBO-JET" emblems. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed, dual-mode tail lamps illuminate a chrome-trimmed fuel filler and correct Sting Ray emblem above a chrome-trimmed tag bracket, polished exhaust pipes and two more mirrored bumpers.

ENGINE

Tilt this Chevy's hood and you'll find an original, 427 cubic inch L72 big block that frames a correct "IP" suffix stamp and matching 123898 partial VIN in a high performance 3869942 casting number and March ( C ) 30th (30), 1966 (6) casting date. Professionally rebuilt by Stinger Racing Engines of Kernersville, North Carolina, that fully sorted mill utilizes a .015 overbore to trump the car's 425 horsepower factory rating with a little over 507 dyno-proven horses! At the top of the Chevy Orange block, a proven Holley carburetor rides between a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner and fresh stainless fuel lines. Below that carb, a correct Winters intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture in to correct, cast iron heads, which hide Comp roller rockers and quality roller lifters under stamped and color-keyed valve covers. When the juice hits the cylinders, reliable, chrome-capped ignition sparks fresh, stainless-sleeved wires while a beefy roller cam and new pistons push spent gases through restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling for that fire is provided by a shrouded radiator, which hangs in front of pliable GM hoses, simple squeeze clamps and reproduction tower clamps. And, aesthetically, this Chevy's tidy engine compartment is exceptionally well done, framing items like a rebuilt Delco-Remy alternator, a reproduction Delco battery and correct master cylinder in clean, Satin Black surfacing

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Since this Vette was poorly stored, its original chassis was rusted beyond repair. That meant the car's quality restoration included the added complexity of sourcing a fresh chassis and carefully restoring it to well documented specs. Behind the awesome big block, a vintage Ansen NHRA scatter shield fronts an original Muncie M21 4-speed, which sports a familiar 3885010 casting number, a Muncie (P) assembled on June (06) 1st (01) build stamp and a matching 123898 partial VIN. That tough transmission twists a factory-correct rear end, which spins a correct posi-traction differential around correct 4.11 gears. That drivetrain rolls on a correctly rebuilt F41 Special Suspension, which mixes old school manual steering with correct power disc brakes. There's a fresh dual exhaust system that shuttles spent gases through factory replacement mufflers. And at the corners of the floor, 205/70R15 Merit M600 Touring Radials spin correct whitewalls around chrome, knock-off-style wheel covers.

INTERIOR

Check between this C2's door and you'll find a Standard Black interior that was restored as needed. Tight vinyl seats frame a thin console that's equipped with a correct chrome shifter. In front of that shifter, a monochromatic dash hangs rebuilt telemetry over a correct Delco pushbutton radio. At the sides of that dash, stylish door panels melt in to fade-free carpet that's protected by bowtie-branded floor mats. In front of the driver, a faux Rosewood steering wheel laps a familiar cross-flag emblem. And behind the passengers, a fully carpeted storage compartment provides some much needed space.
