Description of 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

This vehicle is located in our Sun Prairie, WI location. Please call 608.318.1945 with any questions or to schedule an appointment to see this beautiful car.

This is a drop-dead gorgeous 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS presented in its rare, original livery of Mulsanne Blue over White vinyl buckets. This original SS car was built in Arlington, TX and shipped to its original owner in Colorado. There is was driven and cared for until 1990. Surprisingly, the first owner of this car only put on about 99,000 miles in those 18 years. This is a true SS featuring a 4 speed manual transmission and factory A/C.

When the 2nd owner purchased the car, he drove it for a short time and then gave it a light refresh before taking it out to car shows for the next 15 years. Throughout this time, the 2nd owner only put about 4,000 miles on the car. It was at this time the 2nd owner made the quantum leap to create the dream machine that he always wanted. That dream and about $40,000 got us to the beautiful car that we have today. There is a saying in the restoration industry.... "to have a fantastic restored car; you need to start with a fantastic example of a solid and well-cared for car". That is exactly what we have here. This SS was still a fantastic, and solid example of an American Muscle Car in 2005 when it started it's restoration; and the end result shows. This is an outstanding automobile that can be driven daily while making some of the pickiest critics quiet.

The powerplant of this Chevy features a correct, date-coded 402 big block that performs exactly the way you expect. This engine has been tuned perfectly, and performs flawlessly. The motor is backed by a 4 speed manual transmission to allow the driver to run through the gears just like the old days. The 4 speed shifts perfectly with no grinding or popping out of gear. All this power is transferred to a 12-bolt rear end featuring a set of 3:55 posi rear gears.

The exterior of the car is absolutely beautiful featuring professionally laid Mulsanne Blue base coat clear coat over laser straight sheet metal and painted on SS stripes. The white vinyl top is in excellent condition, and perfectly compliments the interior and stripe package. There are no surprises or disapointments; the gaps are correct - the lines are straight - the paint is beautiful. To finish off the big block look; the previous owner added a correct hood with working cowl induction set up.

The interior is 100% consistent with the exterior when talking about condition and WOW factor. The white bucket seats and center console are in beautiful shape as well as the carpet, headliner, dash and door panels. Once again.... no excuses or disapointments. The full gauge package works as it should, and the factory A/C blows cold. Even all the lights inside the engine compartment and trunk are in perfect working order.

The rest of the car remains as it came from the factory but beautifully restored. These options include:

Cars like this don't come around every day. This is NOT a "slapped together", "shade-tree mechanic built", "rush job", or "previous rust-bucket" type of car. One test drive will tell you this was, and is, a quality classic car that has been very well maintained and loved it's entire life.
