Description of 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Being offered for sale for the first time to the general public is this true early 1969 Camaro Z28. I bought this car from the original owner. It was bought new 20 miles from my home and I saw it the first time in 1981. The original owner ordered it in May of 1968 from the Chevrolet Dealership he worked for. It was delivered to him on Nov. 29th, 1968. Built at the Los Angeles plant and special ordered with power steering (which is very uncommon for Z28's), it has the mandatory DZ 302 and close ratio M-21 with factory installed console with the factory installed gauges, factory multiplex AM/FM 4 speaker radio. Factory tachometer works perfectly. It is fully documented with the Protect-O-Plate and first temporary registration slip. The build sheet was located on the tank but it is so deteriorated as to be of little value. This car still retains about 80% original paint with all of the original deck lid and hood stripes. This car has only rolled 68,121 miles since new and is documented actual miles on the title. The owner had a late style rear spoiler added at the dealership in 1970 and he also added hood pins in 1971, and headers in 1972. The car still retains all 4 original AD coded rally wheels and 4 clip trim rings and GM derbys, the original distributor, original Holley with original metering blocks, original Winters intake manifold, original fan and fan shroud, original radiator with tag, original air cleaner, original valve covers, original power steering box and pump, original horns, original brake booster (master replaced), original Hurst shifter and ball, original 3:73 BU rear end (now has 4:11 gears), original rebuilt 37 amp alternator, original M-21 close ratio Muncie, original interior (fair/poor condition), most original hose clamps, original starter (rebuilt), and all original sheet metal including all pans. The engine dropped a valve in 1970 with less than 10,000 miles and was replaced under warranty. The owner decided he would stamp his VIN on the pad since it was basically blank and wanted to be able to identify it if the car was ever stolen. He just used a regular stamping kit and never even tried to imitate a factory stamp. It was just a 3 year old car that he never thought would be that valuable. He just drove his car home from work after repairs were completed and never got any paperwork. So this engine actually only has around 58,000 miles on it. The warranty block is a 4 bolt main 3970010 dated H130 (Aug. 13, 1970). EVERY component from the original factory engine was installed on this block under warranty that was still in good shape including the crank, heads, distributor, carburetor, air cleaner, valve covers, intake manifold, timing cover, harmonic balancer, etc. It may not technically be "matching numbers" in the strictest sense; but it DOES have the engine in it that Chevrolet supplied since 1970.This car runs and drives extremely well and is amazingly tight with the original ball joints in it! I have put a kit in the Holley but it still has a slight bog in it just off idle. The valves have been recently adjusted. I have replaced the following items: rear package tray (original speakers and covers), rear shocks, battery, date coded spark plug wires, air filter, plugs, points, rotor, condenser, cap, fresh oil change, fresh radiator flush. I have a new correct grille still in the box for it. All of the lights, wipers, horn, heater, turn signals, gauges, tach, dome light, and even the low fuel warning light work perfectly. The radio has spent the last 20 years in the original owners home and I re-installed it but could not make it work (he said it does work). All of the seat belts are original and I have cleaned them and they look and function nicely. This car will need the metal dash frame repaired as it has some rust due to a leaking windshield gasket in front of the defroster ducts. The VIN is not anywhere close to where the repair is needed. The rockers, frame rails, floor pans, trunk pans, top, hood, cowl, front header panel, dutchman panel (has a couple of pinholes easily welded up) decklid, rear tail panel, bumpers, guards, and front valance are all straight and rust free. The original front valance is off the car but still has its original paint on it and is very nice. Most of the chambered exhaust is still original and sounds great. All emblems and trim are original. I believe the front calipers and rear drums are original as well. The car would likely need front fenders, rear valance, and both lower quarters patched unless you don't care that there would be a lot of bondo involved. The black vinyl top was removed many years ago when it started to tear and that is why the top is rust free. The power disc brakes work perfectly. All of the vinyl top stainless trim is excellent. I have the original jack for it. I have the complete history of where the original owner lived, how much he paid for it, etc. on a Word document.

I have dozens of photos of the car including the day I bought it and loaded onto a trailer for the 20 mile trip home, when the gas tank was dropped where I got the remains of the build sheet, etc. The car will load easily onto a transport truck or trailer as I drive it once a week at least and it is a blast. Shipping will be from 81416. How many survivor real Z28 cars are left? Will it be another 50 years before it is offered again? As a side note; I also own a 1969 RS/SS (27 years now) and restored it to a very high level...so I do know a LOT about these cars. You can view that car on my profile page.
