Description 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa Canadian-built Turbocharged Coupe.
Located near PORTLAND, OREGON.
VIN# 610737001836
One of 651 Corsa Coupes built by GM Canada in 1966.
One of less than 50 FACTORY TURBOCHARGED cars built.
Current owner is a long-time Corvair collector, restorer and CORSA member. He looked for years to find just the right car. It had to be an original Canadian-built turbocharged coupe in Regal Red.
Once the car was located in Canada, it was shipped to Oregon. The car was completely disassembled and a correct, rotisserie restoration was performed using the finest materials available. Body was striped to bare metal. Repainted in Glasurit Regal Red. The Canadian Corvairs are unique in that much of the undercarriage and trunk are painted in body color, rather than the black used on the U.S. produced cars. This car is correct throughout. Every nut, bolt screw and part was restored, rebuilt or replaced, mostly with NOS parts, including the suspension, steering, transmission, differential, etc. Many undercarriage parts and other components were powder coated.
Original 164 cubic inch, “Turbo-Air 6” engine was correctly rebuilt by an aircraft mechanic, who also specializes in Corvair engines. NOS turbo heads were used in the restoration. Every engine component is new or rebuilt to factory specifications. With turbocharger, this engine is rated at 180 horsepower. Estimated 0-60 mph in 8.6 seconds. Top speed: 112 mph.
Interior was restored with new upholstery from Clark’s installed; including seats, door panels, carpets, headliner and rear package tray. All of the unique Canadian-only items exist on this car, including Canadian script glass and restored Canadian deluxe seat belts.
Proper sized tires were not commercially available, so tires were custom-made to ensure that size and whitewall width were to exact specifications. The only modification is radial tires, which are accepted in judging with no point deductions.
This is arguably the best Corvair in the world. Hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars were spent to bring it to this level. Since restoration is has won Best of Show three times at the Corvair Society of America (CORSA) National Convention. At the Forest Grove, Oregon Concours d’Elegance, it was awarded Best Chevrolet, of all models and all years shown, including Corvettes.
Featured display car in the lobby of the LeMay America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington.
Fewer than 100 miles have been put on the car since restoration, but it is regularly run and exercised to keep it fresh.
Licensed with clear title in the state of Oregon.
Over $60,000 invested. Reserved WELL BELOW the cost of restoration.
