Description of 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. Black with Red Bucket Seats

As to myself, I am a (68) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that is at 100% with (1,192) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.

Just some quick history on the 1979 Z28 Camaro

There were 84,877 examples of the Z28 Camaro built in 1979. The Camaro received a new instrument panel and an anti-theft steering column. Power came from a base 250 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine which had a lower axle ratio to help increase its gas mileage. Optional engines included a 305- and 350-cid V8. Standard equipment included a front stabilizer bar, concealed two-speed windshield wipers, carpeting, power steering, a Delco Freedom batter, a heater and defroster, buck seats in the front, a center dome light, a day/night mirror, and a four-spoke steering wheel. New options for 1979 included citizen's band (CB) radio, and a cassette player or clock built into an AM/FM stereo.

For 1979, the Type LT model was replaced with the Berlinetta. This new model had body pin striping, a bright grille and black0finished rocker panels. They also had color-keyed custom style wheels, body-color mirrors, dual pin stripes, chrome headlamp bezels, a soft fascia front and rear bumper system, bright windshield moldings, an Argent Silver rear-panel appliqué, and black window moldings.

The performance option on the Camaro for 1979 was the Z/28. Along with the special 350 cubic-inch 175 horsepower engine, it had a four-speed close-ratio manual gearbox, a bolt-on simulated hood air scoop with a black 'throat', three-piece front air dam that wrapped around the sides and a blacked-out front end with a center grille emblem. The decals were moved from the front fender to the door. Most of the cars came with a rear spoiler, but 81 customers selected not to have it installed. Other features included black headlamp bezels, a black rear end panel, a black-finished license plate mount, body-color sport mirrors, body-color door inserts, body color back bumper, and front fender air louvers.

And now for this 1979 Z28 Camaro that I am selling here today on eBay for a friend. This Z28 is not mint but is a good driver quality car. Based on the information decoded from the trim tag, this is a true 1979 Z28 Camaro optioned with power windows and T-tops. The good news is this Z28 is an original and sought after code 19 Black Z28 with the desirable code 74C Carmine Cloth Deluxe Interior. The bad news is the original engine is long gone being replaced by a stout 383ci stroker engine.

So the bottom line is that this 1979 Z28 is not perfect by any means but the asking price is within the range of the average hobbyist and would be a great entry level vehicle for anyone wishing to break into the classic car world.

I do know from previous experience that there is never too much information for the serious collectors. So, for all of you numbers people, this is for you.

Exterior: As the photos plainly show, the Z28 is now in primer. It appears that the primer was applied some time ago and may need to be re-applied but I am not a body man. It was decided not to repaint the Z28 now but to let the new owner decide when and how to repaint. All glass is good. I was told that the T-tops do not leak. There is a new hood decal, headlight bezel, tail lights, rim center caps as well as the original rear window trim that will go with the car. The rims appear to be the original type with very good tires. The rear quarters appear to have been replaced. Not sure as to other body panels.

All exterior items work such as:

· Head lights;

· Tail lights;

· Blinkers;

· Back up lights;

· Horn;

· Wipers.

Interior: The Carmine red interior is in good condition but not perfect. There are no rips or cracks in the dash, seats or door panels. The headliner is in place but should be replaced at some point. The carpet and package tray are good. The automatic center console is in good condition. The following gauges are functional:

· Heater (Heater Blower Switch Missing);

· Gauges;

· Tachometer;

· Speedometer.

The radio is missing and the clock does not work.

Engine: A stroker 383ci engine that starts and runs strong is now in place of the original 350. The engine sound good when running with no funny noises. The power steering is functional.

Trunk; The trunk looks good.

Undercarriage; Looks good with the exception of the rear lower trunk brace. Frame rails and floor pans look good. The exhaust is in good shape. Front and rear sway bars are in place. Does have air shocks.
