Looking for the next up and coming American classic with low miles from Chevy's Heartbeat of America 1980's period? Come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this super clean 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 Convertible. This example is one of 13,075 Cavalier Z24 Convertibles made in 1989 and we are pretty confident that only a handful of these are left in this type of near show room condition. This one was manufactured at GM's Lordstown, Ohio factory. After it left the assembly line, it was shipped to the St. Louis, Missouri Area Zone Office before arriving at Jim Butler Chevrolet right here in St. Louis, Missouri.

This car has never left the St. Louis area and we are selling this for a local friend who collects some really unique collector cars who purchased this car from the original owner who was a salesman for Chevrolet and is included with original window sticker, original delivery docs and original owners manual with service receipts.

It left the factory with the following options - 2.8L V-6 engine; automatic transmission; air-conditioning; AM/FM stereo with seek & scan, cassette deck, graphic equalizer, clock and extended range sound system; cruise control; tilt steering column; intermittent wipers; power trunk opener; and trunk-mounted luggage carrier.

Dressed in Dark Red (code 79) with silver lower fascia, this car's paint and trim are in overall very good order though there are some minor blemishes on the hood and three minor dimples on the driver's side rear fender, just behind the driver's door. The black, vinyl, power-folding top is in very good order. The car's glass panels are clear and intact, however the rear window on the convertible top has aged, as one should expect on a car that's nearly 30 years old. The car's lights are in great condition, including the quad, flush-mounted headlights and unique taillights with their six-panel design.

The car's bodywork is straight and solid, the color-keyed bumpers are in very good order, the engine bay is quite tidy and the battery appears new. This Cavalier rolls on BFGoodrich Radial T/A blackwall tires, size 215/60R14 at all four corners and the tires surround factory alloy wheels. The radials are in excellent condition while the wheels are in very good order.

Under the hood is the General's ubiquitous 2.8L V-6 engine (code LB6) that first saw duty in the X-bodies. This unit has multi-port fuel injection, an improvement on the older throttle-body induction previously used. Buttoned to this engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 125 three-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power rack-and-pinion steering, power front disc and rear drum brakes, power locks, power windows, cruise control, intermittent wipers, tilt steering column and more.

Inside, the car's Black Sport Cloth interior is in overall excellent condition. The front bucket and rear bench seats are in excellent order, as is the matching carpet. The black, three-spoke steering wheel looks great and the instrument panel, with its full instrumentation, is crack-free and very representational of the styling cues of the era. Even the inner door panels look fantastic and echo the rest of the interior's general theme. The center console looks fantastic, as does the floor-mounted shifter. There are cubbies in the console for spare change and other small items while there are spaces below the receiver to store music cassettes. Completing the interior is the aforementioned Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with cassette deck with search and repeat, radio station seek & scan, five-band graphic equalizer, clock and extended range sound system.

In 1989, the steering column was redesigned. The new self-aligning steering wheel was designed so as to reduce injuries in a collision by bending to conform to the driver's chest. Also, rear shoulder belts became standard on all models. RS and Z24 custom cloth seating received a new style of front bucket seats with integral headrests.

Documentation includes original window sticker, original delivery docs and original owners manual with service receipts. Competition to this Cavalier droptop in 1989 included convertibles from Chevrolet's own Camaro, Chrysler's LeBaron, Ford's Mustang, Mazda's Miata, Nissan's 240SX, Pontiac's Firebird and Toyota's Celica.

This is a great driver with ultra-low miles and the ability to drop the top makes it a pleasant fair-weather cruiser. Driving with the top down also lets you hear that rumbly exhaust note. Gen Xers - remember those high school or college days before you got married and had kids? This car is a testament to those times, when life was less hectic. If you still have working De La Soul, Paula Abdul, R.E.M., Roxette or Tom Petty cassettes, even better! Bring 'em with you today to play during a test-drive while at MotoeXotica Classic Cars.
