I bought this car with the intention of GETTING it titled as a restoration vehicle. I now collect another types of cars and would like to sell this one. It runs FINE but needs to be SOLD as either parts or in a state that accepts certificate of destruction titles. I have papers for all transactions including purchase. transfers from Florida. verification from a Texas law enforcement agengy that this car has been purchased by me as a salvage parts vehicle and that I am the owner. I also have all verifiable receipts of all work I have put into the car. New battery. REBUILT transmission. all fluids changed and the car is running fine. There are no visable signs of flood damage. I ALSO HAVE RUN IT THROUGHT THE CAR WASH WITH NO LEAKS. THE ONLY STATE STATE THAT WILL TITLE A CAR WITH A CERTIFICATE OF DISTRUCTION TITLE THAT I HAVE HEARD OF FOR THE STREET IS KENTUCKY. PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT IF YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO TRY THAT. THERE IS NO GUARANTEES OF TITLING FOR THE STREET THIS CAR IN ALL OTHER STATES THAT WILL ALLOW RESTORATION VEHICLES OR "KIT CARS" OR THE LIKE TITLES WITH PROPER PAPER WORK COULD BE THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TITLED FOR STREET USE. You usually cannot register a vehicle with a certificate of destruction. due to dangers that may emerge. In fact when you buy such a vehicle the dealer or seller must tell you it cannot be registered in America to avoid any potential trouble in titling. I have heard that of states in the south allow such vehicles to be registered if proper restoration is completed but northern states. such as Michigan. forbid such cars to be registered. Another option would be to get it retitled as a custom built vehicle. If you replace and/or modify major parts (engine. transmission. frame. etc. ). and can provide proof of ownership of the major parts. get the vehicle inspected (usually by the state highway patrol. not an inspection station). you may be able to get a title as a custom built vehicle. The issue is how many changes you must make to get the vehicle to be considered custom built. This will vary from state to state. I would ask your state's DMV or highway patrol what constitutes a custom built vehicle before starting down this path. and if having a previous certificate of destruction would prohibit the use of the major parts.
