Description of 1988 Chevrolet Suburban |
*Major overhaul, including engine, transmission, electric, HD axles - This 1988 Chevrolet Suburban has been comprehensively sorted and modernized. The highlights include a modern, Chevrolet "LS" 408CI stroker V8 engine conversion mated to a renewed Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission using updated electrics, heavy duty axles, Warn locking hubs, updated air conditioning, high end audio equipment and a nicely finished interior with limousine-style seating for rear passengers. The result is a no-fuss, turn-key "square body" Suburban that offers more power, better reliability and surprisingly good on-road manners. No carburetors, ignition points, or borderline dangerous 30-year-old electrics to deal with here. A solid example when purchased, the truck would undergo a major overhaul beginning at the end of 2013 to bring it into the 21st century. Originally Navy Blue, this half-ton Suburban was completely repainted in the Charcoal Grey Metallic color that it wears today. This included door jambs, engine compartment, etc. that were all refinished in black. Following paint, a marque specialist CMD Automotive carried out the mechanical work and their detailed invoices are retained and amount to around $20,000 alone! The project was an open-checkbook affair with the shop given the authority to make everything right. There's frankly too much to list, but here are some more details on the build of the truck: Custom built Chevrolet LS V8 6.0L/408CI stroker engine *Custom built TH400 (Turbo Hydramatic) 3-speed automatic transmission ... and perhaps most importantly, there's a train horn when you really need to get someone's attention! Beyond this, other brake, suspension and steering components were renewed, and fuel & charging systems refurbished as necessary, to ensure everything was up to speed. These trucks, along with Broncos, Scouts and early Land Cruisers are on the climb and one could simply not build a similar truck for anywhere near the asking price. If you're looking for turn-key fun that you can throw friends and family in, this is it. To fully appreciate this brute come and check it out at our offices in Charlotte, NC. |
