GM built the '69 z/28 to compete against the mustang in the Trans Am race circuit, that's why the 302 is a special engine. They hound out the cylinders to put oversized pistons/ oversized lobed lifter cam shaft/oversized carb. Muncie 4 speed transmission to create more horsepower. The 69 z/28 302 engine is special and only came in the z/28. It has more horsepower then a 396ci! My car has been restored top to bottom.
