Description of 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible

Some of the most extraordinary cars we've ever featured are Chevelles, and perhaps because of their iconic status, they always seem to be among the favorites in our showroom. This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible, for instance, has the iconic look of the SS and also possesses the roar of the big block. No SS Chevelle is 100% without a buildsheet and unfortunately we don't have one on this car. It does have many tell tale items that an SS... would have seen so please ask us for further details if desired. The red-over-black color combination is striking and perfectly suits one of America's finest muscle cars. No car is perfect, but this one is really bloody nice with straight bodywork that reflects beautifully under the shiny red paint. Perfect the paint is not, as there are a few imperfections here and there, but overall the presentation is very impactful. Even for a convertible, panel fit is good, with solid gaps around the doors and it has been fitted with a correct cowl-induction hood with hood pins for just the right SS look. Black stripes are a little prototypical but certainly look fantastic, and they've been expertly applied to match the factory pattern exactly. Bright chrome bumpers, proper SS badging, and all the other little details make this more than just another car, but rather an expression of the restorer's craftsmanship and dedication. You can see just about everywhere you look that they tackled the project as if it really was a six-figure piece; it's an impressive droptop! The stunning black interior is OEM all the way, but the sinister color will make you think that it came out of something a lot more expensive. Newer seat covers, carpets, door panels, dash pad, and other soft parts mean that it's like the factory intended inside, and aside from a few signs of use mostly on the driver's side, it looks great. A 3-spoke steering wheel frames a correct SS instrument cluster, which includes a factory tach and clock, all must haves for a proper LS5. And talk about attention to detail! The original AM/FM radio is gone, but it was replaced by a retro-style modern AM/FM/AUX unit installed in the dash and the center console has been fully restored, albeit with a Hurst shifter with a cue ball top for the 4-speed gearbox. The black convertible top lowers itself with the touch of a button and features a plastic rear window, a nice feature in many GM muscle cars. The trunk is also tidy, with spatter-finish paint and a full-sized tire assembly with jack. The 360 horsepower LS5 454 cubic inch V8 delivers a powerful wallop of torque at any speed yet with its more street-friendly nature, makes an ideal cruiser. The engine bay is detailed to show standards with many flashy pieces, accurate right down to the Chevy Orange paint on the block and valve covers and the functional cowl-induction air cleaner. The list of new components is extensive and it's obvious that the work is quite recent as even the long tube headers haven't changed color from the heat. It's backed by a quick-shifting 4-speed and a bulletproof 12-bolt rear end, and exhales through a Flowmaster dual exhaust system that looks and sounds right. There's more new stuff underneath, and the entire undercarriage is solid and very presentable. Chrome American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with 215/50/17 front and 255/60/17 rear performance radials at all four corners complete the illusion. This is a droptop Chevelle that was built to be driven, and to look darn good in the process. If you like the look and crave big block power, this convertible is a great choice. Call today!
