Description of 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

This 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is the kind of muscle car we'd all like to own: a thumping 350 cubic inch V8 for power, a sinister black paint job, loaded with goodies like A/C, and an awesome stance. There's a good bit of money tied up in this car and it runs every bit as great as it looks. If you're going big, you may as well paint it black, and the guys who did the work... on this one were craftsmen of the first order. The bodywork is quite nice, with good fit and panels that reflect light almost distortion-free, and on a car like this, it matters. All the wonderful details of the late A-body design are there, including the character line that runs from nose to tail, and a black vinyl roof that adds a touch of sophistication to this street brawler. And no Chevy ever came out of the factory with paint that is as clear and deep as the finish on this Chevelle, which almost begs you to reach out and touch it, and even though it isn't perfect, it sure does turn a lot of heads when it's banging down the boulevard. There's a subtle de-badging, which cleans up the flanks quite a bit, and the contrast of the stainless wheel arch moldings against the black paint looks great. We love that they resisted the usual SS badges and other bolt-on additions from the speed shop, which means this is just a clean, honest muscle car with a ton of street presence. Beautiful chrome bumpers fore and aft are in great condition and the aftermarket Billet Specialties are a nice touch. Inside, it remains largely stock, because there's not much you can do to improve on one of Chevy's best designs. The Parchment upholstery appears newer but replicates the factory patterns admirably, and the plush black carpets, crisp door panels, and crack-free dash pad are in great shape as well. The factory gauges have been augmented by a column-mounted tachometer and a set of auxiliary units below the dash, helping the driver monitor the engine's vitals more efficiently. You already know we love the comfortable and spacious bench seats and the column shifter, which manages a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. You'll also note the upgraded R134a A/C and a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo, all sensible upgrades that make this car a pleasure to drive. Even the trunk is nicely finished with correct spatter paint and has enough room to account for almost any and all travel plans. But the real fun of this one is the strong-running 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood. Nicely detailed, it is designed to look as slick as the exterior and they worked hard to highlight the upgrades that went into the build. The carburetor is a performance-oriented Holley 4-barrel atop a Weiand aluminum intake manifold, and with a serpentine belt system running all the accessories, it has a potent idle and impressive mid-range punch. It barks immediately to life thanks to a Mallory HEI system and through a set of long-tube headers feeding great-sounding Flowmasters underneath. As I mentioned earlier, there's also a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission feeding a 10-bolt with friendly gears inside so it cruises easily at modern highway speeds without much effort. The suspension has been upgraded with lowering springs that set the stance, a heavy-duty sway bar up front, and tubular control arms in the rear, and with 4-wheel disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors, stopping all that metal is no longer an issue. In back, there's a new gas tank and the suspension has been lowered all around for that awesome crouching stance. Retro-cool Billet Specialties wheels are the perfect touch and they wear fat 225/50/17 front and 275/50/17 rear performance radials to finish the look. Sometimes cars just stand out for how well-integrated they are, and this is one of those cars. A cool Chevelle Malibu with a ton of performance that will always get noticed. Call today!
