Description of 1985 Chevrolet Corvette

Chevrolet Corvette . Condition is Used.

1985 Corvette C4 Coupe Z-51 L98 w/ Manual Transmission

Please read description thoroughly and carefully.

The car is Smoke Blue (custom color – original color of car was grey) with Graphite interior, and has 67,857 original miles as of this auction. The engine is an L98 5.7 / 350CI V8 with Tuned Port Injection. The transmission is a standard (manual shift) 4 speed Super T-10 with a Doug Nash 4+3 Overdrive gearbox. This Corvette has the Z-51 handling package. The rims are from a 2001 corvette. The fronts are 17", the rears18”. The interior has normal wear & tear for a vehicle 35 years old. AC works, but is not charged (R12). The radio is a Pioneer AM/FM/CD (single) stereo with 4 speakers (probably stock).

The following was done by the previous owner:

The transmission was rebuilt with oversized gears at Hartford transmission. The engine has high performance upgrades including new oversized 58mm throttle body, New ECM with Hyper Tech chip, Vortex Ram Air kit with extra K&N high flow cone filter (2 total), & plenty of chrome on the motor. The car has heat treated short headers with a Stainless Steel Flowmaster 3-inch dual exhaust system. The brake calipers/discs/pads have been upgraded. New windshield installed.

This car is currently registered in CT on a Rebuilt Title, and has been since I bought it in 2007, and I had no problem at DMV, so it will not affect you registering the vehicle.

The License Plates were only removed for the purpose of taking pictures.

When I bought this car, I didn’t know a whole lot about Corvettes. The guy I bought it from knew even less apparently, and it appears he did most of his own work, and the car was an absolute mess.

Most of the work to get this car back on track was done at my local Chevy dealer by their Corvette Specialist. Mechanically the car is sound and runs excellent, needing paint and some cosmetic work to finish. There is a slow oil drip that is most likely the rear main engine seal, that Chevy said is common in these and recommended to leave it alone as it is a minor leak, and not worth the labor cost unless other major (rear/lower engine) repairs are needed later on. I never have to add oil between oil changes. It is mostly just an annoyance in that it leaves oil drips on the floor. This car has always been kept in the garage for the 13 years I have owned it.

Some of the mechanical repairs aside from basic maintenance are as follows:

Overdrive gearbox unit rebuilt by S-K Speed & Performance (Long Island, N.Y.) installed at Chevy, new upgraded power window motors / regulators, weather stripping / seals (body shop), replace master & slave clutch cylinders, rewire windshield wiper/wash system including new module, intake manifold gaskets, new timing chain cover, new fuel pump, rebuilt top end of engine, head gaskets and valve job, exhaust manifold gaskets, O2 sensor, new water pump, new alternator / rectifier, replaced brackets, Blackout Headliner & Pinhole Sunscreen for the Targa top, which was replaced with a new Targa top early on, but now has a stress crack starting. New inner door panels and armrest savers, sun visors, antenna saver bypass wiring harness w/ toggle switch (Passenger side), new power door lock switches, Conti Extreme High Performance DWS tires (275/40ZR18 Rear - 245/45ZR17 Front), neutral (clutch) safety switch, reverse light switch with toggle switch (Driver side) under dash, replaced 4 speed shifter & linkage rod assembly, rebuilt entire digital instrument "star wars" cluster panel, replaced brake light switch, ignition switch, heater shut off valve assembly, rear suspension spindle rod / bearings, overdrive cable, new starter, drive axle u-joints, replaced rear trailing arm assembly.

This is most of the more major repairs. I have a ridiculous amount of money tied up into this car.

I will miss the car, but I don’t drive it nearly enough, and being a fair-weather car, it spends most of its time (and at least half the year) just sitting in my garage. Will also include a microfiber car cover.

It’s time to down-size, thus here it is up for sale to find it a new home, to be enjoyed and driven.

This is a nice looking, good running & handling, comfortable, very distinct, fun car to drive.

It gets a lot of compliments, and I think you’ll be pleased with it.
