Description of 1985 Chevrolet Camaro |
For sale by original owner’s estate administrator—the owner, who died July 2020, bought this car new. It has been stored in Lomita, California, for several years and registered under non-operational status. It’s not known when it was started last, and the administrator has elected to sell it as is—she is not aware of the mechanical condition of the car. The odometer reads 93,481 miles. The car is the California Edition of the first year of the IROC Z28 model—only 502 California Edition models were apparently produced for the 1985 model year. It has the LB9 5.0 liter 215 horsepower fuel-injected V8, with automatic transmission. This gives the car a sleek, elegant appearance, as this edition eliminated the spoiler, IROC decals and fake hood louvers. The interior and exterior look good for its age—the paint still shines and the body panels look straight. I noted scratches on both front fenders, both doors, both bumpers and some by the fuel door. In addition, I noted some chips on the hood and driver side door, as well as some bubbling of the paint on the driver side fender and pitting on the outside rear view mirrors. I did not note any tears in the seats, the carpet and "GM" floor mats are in good condition and the dashboard looks like new. The car still has the original Delco radio with cassette, leather-wrapped steering wheel, middle console and “donut†spare tire. It’s rare to find a Camaro this original! It even has the blue California license plate with "IROC 9." Other defects noted: missing the battery and alternator, the air shocks for the hood and tailgate need replacing, one IROC wheel is missing (see steel wheel in photo) and the headliner sags a bit. I'm not sure why the VIN I entered is not pulling up a vehicle history report, so I've included a picture of the door VIN sticker so you can verify. Buyer will need to pick up the car in Glendora, California. From Wikipedia, regarding the California Edition IROC: For 1985 a (1C5) RPO California IROC-Z was also made, Chevrolet's California Marketing Group came up with the idea and it was for sale in California only. A total of 250 black and 250 red examples were produced. They were all equipped with the 5.0 TPI LB9 engine and TH700-R4 automatic transmission. All came equipped with the IROC-Z fog lights, wheels and ground effects, but with the base Camaro's hood (no louvers), rear decklid (no spoiler), and no exterior decals. |
