Description for Chevrolet Fleetmaster 1948

Here for your consideration is our 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Convertible Coupe. This car has spent that past 40+ years in dry indoor storage. This '48 Chevy is EXTREMELY SOLID 99.9% RUST FREE. Floor Pans Trunk and other body panels are amazingly solid. It’s VERY VERY rare to find one like this. Needless to say - this car needs full restoration and is NOT driveable - BUT - if you’re looking for the proverbial “Barn Find” car - this is it! It’s an EXCELLENT choice for anyone wishing to perform a ground up restoration to original - or hot rod project. This ‘48 Chevy is basically complete including the 216 engine etc. It looks as though someone had the intention to start working on the engine and began by removing the radiator carb intake valve cover etc. Those items remain - but are stored in the trunk along with boxes of miscellaneous parts which include and extra engine head intake manifold vent windows knobs and other miscellaneous parts. The convertible top frame appears to be complete and is still installed on the car. To give you an idea of how this car can look I removed the wretched 1950’s truck style tires that were on the car; sandblasted and painted the rims and installed a new set of Lester wide white walls. I figured it couldn’t hurt to show a bit of the car’s potential in case you wish to share this auction with a wife or loved one that is an integral part of the decision making process in your family. The car was originally Dove Gray in color with green interior. If you choose to restore the car to original - The finished car will be a carbon copy to the ‘48 Chevy used by Jack Nicholson in the movie “The two Jakes”. The "Two Jakes" car now resides in the Petersen Car Museum in Los Angeles. If you choose instead to Hot Rod it ... your bare canvas awaits! Its apparent that the car was painted red at some point in its history. Looks like someone removed most of the red paint which exposed the original dove gray paint underneath.I have taken many photos so you can see the truly solid condition of this ’48. SEE PHOTOBUCKET SLIDESHOW BELOW: The slideshow above shows nearly 100 photos of this car. Click on the slide show above and it should take you to the PhotoBucket library that contains all of the nearly 100 Photos. Pictures alone however cannot demonstrate the solid structure of this car. Therefore on some of the photos I took a grinder and sanded sample areas of the floor and other areas of interest to remove the dirt and expose the bare metal to show you that the car is truly very very solid. I even took some photos of my son standing on various areas of the floor to demonstrate the solid structure. This car is a road warrior veteran and has its share of bumps grinds punctures and even a few bullet holes. The hood and fender has obviously been changed from a green car. I haven't however seen any evidence of any major impacts welding etc.One interesting note ... many years ago when the previous owner put the car in storage he applied a protective coating to many of the chrome items on the car to protect them. Not sure what it was - but it worked. I’ve included some before and after photos of how the parts cleaned up after all the years in storage. It’s Not a HUGE thing - but every bit of preservation helps save some money and time searching for replacement parts. This 1948 Chevrolet Convertible is a prime opportunity for someone who is looking for a super solid example from this era. The car has a couple of desirable options such as banjo when trunk guard etc. which I’m leaving on the car for your benefit. Don't be afraid to bid! I have set the Reserve Price at a fair price which will cover the money I have into the car at present and nothing more.I have way too many cars and need to "thin the herd" as they say. I reserve the right to terminate this auction at my discretion as I have the car for sale in other publications. The Car Title is free and clear. You will receive the Title and all of the necessary paperwork to transfer the vehicle into your name once you have completed the purchase of the vehicle. I bought the car in Washington state and received a clear title at that time. I started the registration process at DMV here in California but unfortunately didn’t get the chance to complete the process. The fees and taxes have been paid and title is ready to transfer. The only item remaining to complete the process is to trailer the car down to DMV to have them view the car to “VIN Verify” it. This will not be a problem as VIN number is clearly visible on passenger’s door frame. Unfortunately because I used a borrowed truck and trailer to retrieve the car - and needed to return it quickly I never had a chance to take the car down to DMV. to have them VIN Verify it. I no longer have access to a truck and trailer to take it there - so I was not able to complete this last step. This car is sold “as is” - with no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for shipping the car to their location. I warrant that there are no liens or encumbrances of any kind.A $2000 deposit is due within 24 HOURS after the end of the auction. Remaining balance must be paid in full with FIVE days after making your initial deposit. The car the parts and the paperwork will not be released until final payment has cleared our bank. Prefer cash or wire transfer to pay remaining amount after paying deposit through PayPal.
