Description of 1961 Chrysler Imperial

864 617 1596 till 10 at night eastern standard time. VERY LOW RESERVE! well this is definitely not my usual thing but its still an outrageously cool car. a couple of months ago i bought a small collection of cars and am selling off what i have no need of, his grand old lady is one of them. she was sold new in california`s napa valley, nd then she made her way down to san diego Ca in 2000. whilst in san diego the transmission was completely rebuilt and the heads were removed and hardened valve seats fitted to cope with our horrible modern unleaded gasoline. all four power window motors were rebuilt at this time also. then in 2006 the owner got a job transfer to proctor arkansas. his new job left him no time to work on the car or even really drive it, he rebuilt transmission has MAYBE a 1000 miles on it now. in 2009 he sold the car to an imperial collector in south carolina.
the new owner died very unexpectedly in 2011 and the car just sat and sat along with all his other cars while the estate was settled. the car is really loaded and has power seat, indows, ower locks and vent windows, ruise control, OOT change radio (how cool is that) rear window de frost and tri-tone horns. the car wears its original white paint that has been buffed through in several area`s and the interior is completely original. as you can see from the pictures the floor pans and trunk floor are 95% while the outer body has only a tiny bit of corrosion, ainly at the very end of the rocker panels where they join the rear wheel well. corrosion is the biggest problem with 1957 through 1963 chrysler products and living in california 90% of its life is what has saved this one.
all the glass is EXCELLENT which means a lot on one of the these old girls. the dash pad is REALLY good apart from one split which you can see in the pictures. if it were`nt for the split the pad would be darn nigh perfect. the white leather is splitting and cracking all over and the rugs were no count so we took them out. i think that certain parts of the door panels could be re used but for the most part plan on re doing the interior. OR, f you want to go for the rat rod look you could just throw some seat covers on, o what`s needed on the mechanicals and leave everything else as is. after all, riving old cars = FUN!
the car RUNS GREAT and the big 413 V8 is as sweet as you please with awesome low down power. after sitting that long the brakes are pretty much on the floor but just driving around the yard you can really feel the power the car has. the transmission drops straight into gear without any hesitation whatsoever the second you push any of the gear selector buttons and you can feel the car kind of straining at the leash to get going! there is a lot of stale gas in the tank so we have it running off of a gallon can under the hood but she starts instantly hot or cold. the coolant had good green antifreeze in it when i got the car and all the fluid levels were up except the power steering, t has not leaked down since i topped it up about two weeks ago. i had the starter completely rebuilt last week, n 8/27 to be precise.
to sum up this old girl needs to have the brakes and fuel system gone through at the very least to be truly drivable. you could drive it up onto a trailer but you are certainly not going to drive it home. though i do know a local guy who is a very good mechanic and he can fix anything that needs attention to make the car a driver. she is very solid and one of the most important things as far as i am concerned is that she is all original and has never been monkeyed with. the air breather is the only thing i can see that has been changed. i do not have the original. as for the cosmetic`s thats entirely up to the lucky high bidder, aint it, e trim the interior or do none of the above and just drive it and have fun, our choice.
at the moment i do NOT have the keys for the car, hough they MIGHT be coming from the deceased estate. but don`t bank on it. there is no lock cylinder in the trunk lock so you have to open it with a screw driver and as for starting her up we just hot wired it, hich is a piece of cake with old cars like this one. the car HAS A CLEAN TITLE and exporting her oversea`s is no problem at all as i have done it many times already.
ok heres the deal with paying for the car. the ONLY forms of payment i will accept are either a bank to bank wire transfer or cash in person at pick up. the car MUST be fully paid for within 3 days of the auctions end. i cannot concern myself with where you live or what shipping will cost you or anything regarding your schedule et cetera. if you can`t pay for the car IN FULL within 3 days by wire transfer or cash in person then simply do not bid. you can reach me on 864 617 1596 until 10 at night eastern standard time if you have any questions.
