Description of 1981 Citroën CX Diesel

This is a very rare opportunity to own a classic Citroen CX in the US! These unique vehicles were way ahead of their time with mechanical and cosmetic advancements. In fact, the name “CX” is a reference to the idea that it was designed to have the lowest coefficient of drag possible. The hydro-pneumatic suspension designed for this car paved the way for high-end luxury manufactures like Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz to employ “cloud like” ride quality on their own top end models. The CX is the evolution of the legendary Citroen DS; which has shown a significant rise in value as of late. The DS connection has created rising interest in the CX models by automotive pundits around the world… and especially in the US where they are not readily available, meaning the investment into a CX is very promising.

The CX was never imported to the US by Citroen themselves due to regulations associated with North American sales. However, Long Beach based Trend Automotive modified the headlights and bumpers to allow the diesel powered CXs to be legally imported to California.

This is a clean and rust free California car. It was purchased in 2010 by a well-known and accomplished Citroen collector and underwent a complete re-conditioning over a four year period with tens of thousands of dollars in receipts to show for it, and less than 6000 miles have been logged since its completion. The paint is less than two years old and absolutely gorgeous, re-finished in the original blue hue. The headlights have been upgraded back to European spec high discharge lights and amplified by fog lights mounted forward of the front valance. The bumpers were also changed over to European spec units to give this vehicle a one-of-a-kind look here is the US. The original seats have been re-upholstered and are extremely comfortable, even on long trips. Everything works in the car including the power sunroof, and all power windows. The driving experience has been augmented with a modern CD player and updated speakers and the AC has been recently serviced and converted to r-134 to ensure reliable use and ease of operation. Carpeting in the passenger compartment and trunk has been replaced with the correct cut and pile. The headliner is good but does show some areas of light staining.

Mechanically the car is in great condition, it has been driven up and down the coast several times in the last year, as well as daily in-town duties, and has never missed a beat. The motor has been completely rebuilt and the manual transmission has been re-sealed to ensure years of problem free enjoyment. The problematic factory starter has been upgraded to a gear reduction design so this diesel Citroen starts easily and quickly every time. The fuel injection pump and all injectors have been rebuilt or replaced during the rebuild. The braking system has also been recently serviced and is in great shape including new brake pads in the last 1500 miles. Suspension has received new spheres on all four corners, a new accumulator, shocks and tie rods; this car is a complete joy to drive.

This lovely classic Citroen is a crowd favorite, and a conversation starter. It has been featured in a local enthusiast magazine and has been known to confuse anyone who sees it in front of the diesel pump at the filling station. Included with the sale are all records available as well as several Citroen literature samples for the new owner to augment their new asset. This Citroen CX D is perfect for any enthusiast looking to start, or add to a collection with something no one else has.

Please note that the actual VIN of this vehicle is VF7MAMM0012MM0376. eBay would not accept the VIN in the listing due to the fact that this vehicle was never sold in the US.
