Description of 1970 Datsun Other

1970 Datsun 1600 roadster restomod. This is a very cool Datsun roadster with a custom built, .0-liter stroker motor, new paint, new wheels and tires, nd a nice custom interior.Overall, great driver's car that is a thrill to look at and drive.Body:New paint in a custom mixed shade of British Racing Green. It looks black in the shade, reen in medium light, nd has subtle hints of blue in bright sunlight. Body is mostly de-badged exceptfor the fender emblems, nd has side molding and bumper delete. The hood has a double row of louvers and hood pin plates (no pins installed now, ut could be added easily). Flat black vinylBRE-style fender stripes look great, ut are removable. The car comes with good soft top frame and a very nice hard top with new black paint, ood weatherstripping, lass and grey felt-lining on the inside.Wheels and suspensionThe wheels are relatively new XXR mini-lite style wheels that are 15x7 with 0 offset. Tires are brand new 195/60. Shocks are KYB Gas-Adjust in great shape and the front sway bar has eurethane bushings. Handling is tight and controlled. Brakes are in good condition with a firm pedal.Drivetrain:Engine is the original R16 that was bored, troked, nd fully rebuilt into a 2.0-liter about 6 years ago and probably has about 5000 miles on it. The block was zero decked and bored .040 over and fitted with dished pistons with new rings. The crank was replaced with a U20 two liter crank, round and polished with new bearings. U20 rods were smoothed and balanced. A performance reground camshaft was installed. The head is ported and polished, ith balanced and polished combustionchambers, new valves and springs, nd a rebuilt rocker assembly from Datsunparts.com. Carbs were converted to dual MCHH 45 Weber sidedraft carbs connected to a ported intake manifold. Ignition is a Pertronix electronic unit. The exhaust system is a tubular header and straight pipe with a single resonator. Clutch was replaced at the time of the rebuild with a heavier duty U20clutch and pressure plate. The car uses the 1600 4-speed transmission which shifts great through all the gears.Interior:The car has somewhat recent custom loop carpeting, ustom black vinyl panels, xcellent Mazda Miata seats, rant steering wheel, hortened shift lever, illet aluminum shift knob profiled after the stock knob, nd Equis gauges in a custom center console and an Equuis tach in the stock location. Car will come with the original console with the AM radio. Has newer Wescothree point retractable seat belts and a roll bar. The issues:This car had several areas that were rusty prior to the new paint. The significant ones were repaired by cutting out rusted sections and butt-welding in new metal patch panels. The repairswere high quality with good welds, OR 15 coating, eam sealer and under coating. The areas include portions of the driver and passenger side floor pans, assenger side rocker, nd passenger side lower fender. While the fender was off, he inner area also stripped, epaired, nd coated in POR 15. Though these repairs have made the car solid again, t just cannot be claimed to be completely rust free. The rear fenders arches were fiberglassed because of rust, ut in the dozen or so years since, hey have remained stable and strong. The arch profile is a little larger than stock because of thiswork but suite the aggressive nature of the car. There is also evidence of some fiberglass work on the bottom of the drivers side rocker. Though there was a new main seal installed at the time of the engine build, t does leak a little oil when it sits. Also the rear differential leaks some. The starter will occasionally crank slow, but the car starts every time. Driving impressions:This Datsun feels as much like a vintage race car as a street car. It has an aggressive exhaust note and likes to be driven hard, hough it's reasonably adept at cruising. The motor is built for performance and it can get temperamental in stop and go traffic, ut it maintains good cooling temps in the heat. The throttle is a little heavier, o it takes a bit of practice to pull smoothly from a stop. The engine produces very quick torque, nd while it will rev up well, t just usually doesn't need it to feel fast. Overall, t's a blast to drive. The built 2.0-liter has proven it's abilityto hang with the 2000 U20 roadsters on drives and at autocross. And now it'll cosmetically hold it's own at a local car show or Cars and Coffee.I am selling this car for my neighbor who bought it from me a year and a half ago. Prior to that, owned it for over 10 years, o I can answer any questions you may have. Car comes with anextensive stack of receipts from the last 12 years, nd of course a clean title.
