1984 Datsun 300ZX Toshio Yamashita said he originally went to school to become an architect, but his father thought he was too small to be on construction sites and signed Yamashita up for the industrial design program instead. He got his start at Nissan in 1968 in parts design for the A10 Violet, and finally got his big design lead break in April 1984 beginning work on the design of what would become the Z31-generation Nissan Z-car. Yamashita worked as one of two lead designers on the Z31 alongside Isao Sono. At the time, the Z-car was really important to Nissan's bottom line and reputation as an automaker, especially in the United States. For consignment a first-year edition of what has become the iconic 300ZX. With this being the last year where both Datsun and Nissan badges would be used, changing to standardized and worldwide Nissan. This car is equipped with a digital dash, as well as a Voice warning system. It presents in nicely used condition. Exterior A smoked glass "T" topped version, that is covered in Dark Pewter Metallic with some nifty Z striping running from the A pillar towards the rear and stick on TURBO badging. Partially hidden headlights pop up from the front of the long hood with a front integrated bumper and grille which shows a few scratches and bumps from previous altercations with a parking lot. Consistent gaps, a rear spoiler, right side hood scoop, and very clean, this car is in great condition from 1984 Aerodynamic straight angled raked lines, and glass that works with steel to create a popular mid '80's look. A side view of this car gives the viewer the impression the car is speeding even when it is standing still. Standard alloy wheels are noted all around. Interior Presenting as very clean with very slightly worn leather all around we see power seats, power windows and power locks. Careful to leave the headlights on you'll have a voice which comes out of the original radio setup utilizes a "Voice Warning System". The Voice Warning System emanates from driver's door speaker to mute the radio and provide a vocal warning whenever a door was ajar, the exterior lights were left on after the vehicle was turned off, the key was left in the vehicle's ignition when the driver's door was opened, or the fuel level was low. The system operates using a small box that integrates a small phonograph with a "needle" that drops onto a plastic "record" and plays the appropriate message. Other technological features in this 300ZX include a totally digital display dash with very nicely engineered graphics, and a choice of several ride modes. Drivetrain An original and showing much patina and some corrosion and dirt, V6 3.0 Liter EFI Turbocharged engine, which runs smoothly, and is attached to a 5-speed manual transmission. Undercarriage Underneath we can see typical wear and tear, some surface rust, but overall structurally sound, even on the lower portions of the doors, virtually no rust whatsoever. For a first edition 300ZX this car holds up nicely.
