Description of 1981 DeLorean DMC-12

1981 DeLorean DMC-12 #6396. Blue over Grey Leather. 5-Speed. Dealer painted by Tate Cadillac in Pomona. Originally red, it was repainted an incredible metallic blue a few years ago. Approximately 25,500 miles (mileage might increase slightly). This car was with its original owner until just four years ago. The car spent about 20 years in California and about 12 years in Arizona. I am the third owner and I bought it about three years ago. When I purchased the car I drove it nearly 1,000 miles home without an issue. I did have some hot start issues at one point (typical for a Delorean) that my mechanic was able to resolve. I have about $4,000 in service receipts since I bought the car, mostly for fuel delivery and K-Jet Injection service. The car includes the "rescue" manual that will help troubleshoot common issues to avoid a tow. The car also includes its original window sticker, tons of service records and Delorean memorabilia. The service records go back to 1982, when the car wore CA plates "A RED DL". The selling dealer, Tate Cadillac was known for painting these cars (red, white, black). While many people are offended by a painted Delorean, in my opinion they do more justice to Giugiaro's timeless design.

While this car is in nice shape and runs and drives great, it does have some small issues (as any 37 year old car would). The black portion of the rear bumper could be repainted (see photos). The front cargo lid release lever has detached, as has the rearview mirror (both happened right after it's last service). The clutch pedal makes a squeaking sound, and there is a slow leak in the clutch hydraulics that requires topping off on occasion. The left front tire has a slow leak. The instrument binnacle has a crack on the top (see photo). The footwell rugs probably aren't original and the driver's side is dirty, probably from the clutch leak.

The car appears very original (other than the paint). There is no evidence that any glass was replaced. The seats are probably original, they had sheep skin covers when I bought the car and have just a little bolster wear. The tires are like new and are probably just a few years old, and the wheels appear refinished. I believe the radio is original.

Clean Autocheck and Clean PA Title in Hand.

I have 100+ High Resolution Photos of the car, but unfortunately eBay will not let me link to them. Please send a message and I will send you a link.
