Description of 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 340, A/C, FC7 Plum Crazy Purple!

OVERVIEW
This 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 340 is owned by retired master restorer and body man; a long time Mopar collector who saved the best to sell out of his collection, for last. This small block Chally has plenty of power and is perfect for hot summer driving, with FACTORY AIR. A quick walk around the car and you can tell, the body is clean and straight, door gaps are tight and even. Factory correct rims are shod in modern radials and ready for the highway. Looking to look and stay cool in a vintage summer driver, this is the one. This car was inspected and photographed by an independent third party, the description reflects his observations, not those of the owner or SYA sales staff. All the body VIN stamps are present and accounted for. The engine is the original, VIN stamped unit.

EXTERIOR
The paint and body are excellent on this car. The inspector noted no significant paint blemishes or defects. There is no evidence of rust or collision damage, or repair related to either condition. The font grill and rear tail lights are original, unrestored and the patina of the assembly is consistent with its originality. All the exterior lights are in good working order. Doors, windows, hood and truck all open and close, sealing tight and good gaps and alignment, consistent with or superior to factory specifications. The owner states that the body panels are, indeed, original.

INTERIOR
The interior is original, unrestored, and in good condition. There are no significant tears, blems, or stains. It is clean, with an even patina, consistent with an original vehicle that has been well cared for. All interior accessories, including gauges, heat, A/C, and radio are in working condition. The interior is well appointed, with bucket seats and no console from the factory. While it may seem unusual to us, in 1970 a console and floor shifter added weight and expense that would likely be removed or replaced in short order with superior performance parts.

ENGINE BAY
Engine bay is stock factory appearing, the only exception being an aftermarket carburetor, chosen for reliability and ease of tuning. The original, numbers matching engine will need to be serviced prior returning the car to regular road use. Rubber fuel lines and coolant hoses are near the end of their service life and will need to be replaced. There is also oil seepage from the timing cover and around the rear main, typical of a car that has been sitting in long term storage. Nothing a weekend and some elbow grease cannot remedy. All the fluids are clean, indicating proper maintenance of the vehicle. The car otherwise runs and drives out strong.

CHASSIS
The undercarriage is in very good condition, showing wear normal for a car that has been fully restored, then driven on a limited basis in sunny weather. The car has not seen or driven in rain since it was completed. Brake pedal is firm and linear, does pull left under hard braking.

SUMMARY
This is a solid car, much better than a typical "driver" quality car. This car is personally owned, long term, by a lifelong Mopar enthusiast and restorer. The guy that you always say, "I like buying cars from guys like that, they know what they are doing and take care of their stuff." This well optioned 340/275hp Challenger R/T with AIR is one service trip away from being your 'go to' ride for the rest of the summer!
