Description of 1900 Dodge Avenger

First time offered for sale since 2016 restoration. 1994 Dodge Avenger IROC race car. Chassis was originally built by Banjo Matthews for use in the 1984 IROC Camaro race cars. When IROC switched to Dodge Daytonas in 1990, the chassis was retrofitted with Dodge power and the Daytona body. Finally in 1994, the IROC race cars were all fitted with the Dodge Avenger bodies, as shown here. This car retains one of the original IROC Dodge 355 cu. in. 9:1 compression race engines, with only 45 hours runtime since last rebuilt by Ilmore Engineering. (Receipt in hand.) The Richmond Super T10 four-speed transmission and Stock Car Products quick change rear end are also authentic IROC Avenger components, also with low hours. This car is ready for track fun or a museum. Currently set up in road course configuration, but since its restoration has only been used for car shows and cruise-ins, where it is always a crowd favorite.

History

This car raced in 7 of the 8 International Race of Champions series races held in 1994 and 1995. Mark Martin won at Darlington in '94 and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. won at Talladega in '95, both driving this car. Other drivers to compete in this, the only, tan-colored Avenger in the IROC fleet were: Tom Kendall, Danny Sullivan, Rusty Wallace, Ken Schrader, and Steve Kinser. After the '95 season, the IROC Avengers were retired and this car became one of twelve IROC Avengers that were used as promotional "school" cars by the Penske-run Marlboro Racing Experience from 1999 to 2010. These twelve Avengers were all rebuilt, painted Marlboro red and white, and fitted with passenger seats. This car was recently restored back to 1995 race appearance, except minor mechanical upgrades and the passenger seat were retained. This car was purchased with no historical documentation. During the restoration, the driver history was provided by former IROC officials based upon the original stamped chassis numbers, body component ID numbers, and the original 1994 tan race paint uncovered throughout the car.
