Description of 1971 Dodge Power Wagon 100

1971 Dodge Power Wagon 100

The Dodge Power Wagon is a four wheel drive medium duty truck that was produced in various model series from 1945 to 1980 by Dodge, then as a nameplate for the Dodge Ram from 2005 to 2013, and, most recently '13-present, as an individual model marketed by Ram Trucks.

Let's face it, there are pickup trucks and then there are PICKUP trucks, and this Power Wagon from 1971 is the latter. Just its stance looks tough, high off the ground, two tone paint and big rig cab topper lighting, it's holding its own for the definition of the word TOUGH! (which could also be used as a synonym for groovy or cool, you know from the 70's... Tough!).

Exterior
This rare tall 4x4 short-bed truck lived its life in Colorado and brought some of that wild west spirit back east with it. Bathed in two tone blue green with white accenting paint, all is looking fine on the paint front. Uppers are presenting in the blue green, then a thin stripe and chrome trimming, and the separation begins in earnest just below the belt line with the lower portion of the truck in white. Gaps are well minded and steel is all dent and rust free. Upfront the shiny chromed grille with inset headlights and lower bumper are in nearly like new condition. Good badging is all around as well as large rear view chromed mirrors hanging off of each door. Big rig style cab topper lighting is installed on this example. On the back elongated oval tail lighting and a diamond plate (plate) is on the rear tailgate. This is bordered below with a white painted bumper. The short bed is lined with a rubber mat liner and has a shiny diamond plate toolbox resting below the sliding back glass on the cab. The upper edges of the bed are lined with the diamond plate as well, which saves wear on all the top edges of this bed.

Interior
A touch of class and utilitarian environments collide inside with the metal blue green body matching door panels that have a white vinyl screwed on insert. Between these doors is a diamond stitched tufted green velour bench seat. The dash has been customized with a new black panel and all newer round shiny bezeled blackface gauges and some warning lights. The center of the dash is painted in body matching blue green and houses the temp. sliders and an aftermarket Optimus AM/FM/Cassette player/radio. A large chromed "Jesus" bar is now attached in front of the passenger glove box. We can also note short pile black carpet with rubber mats for the floor, and a blue fiberboard headliner above.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a fully restored 383ci V8 block painted with orange and sporting orange valve covers and intake manifold. All braided stainless hoses, supple HD wiring, and headers are on this correct engine for this truck. On top below the chromed air cleaner cover is a single 4-barrel carburetor, and on back is an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission. The 4.10 gear setup drive the wheels. All buttoned up and beautiful presenting under this hood.

Undercarriage
Solid steel and no rust environment are seen underneath. Leaf sprung suspension is all around as are drum brakes. A surface rusted exhaust system with glass pack style exhaust is underneath as well as exiting stage right and left just before the rear wheel wells in chrome tipped form.

Drive-Ability
A tall truck that fires right up and based on the condition of the engine it was no surprise. Neither was the pure power this engine puts out, with all working very nicely all together even the 4 wheel drive.

A rare TOUGH truck that can get you thru anything you throw at it all the while doing it in style. Big block power, an automatic transmission and 4 wheel drive....what more can a bada$$ mothertrucker ask for!
