Description of 1968 Dodge Charger

1968 Dodge Charger (XP29F8B265xxx) All numbers matching survivor, original 62k miles, 318c.i., auto transmission, bucket seats, 10” drum brakes, vinyl top, fender tag, broadcast sheet, hood mounted turn signals, wheel lip moldings, 8 ¾ rear end, 2.76 diff., factory thumb wheel AM radio, green interior and 14” steel wheels with original hub caps.

The Charger was bought new at St. Clair Dodge dealership in Pittsburgh, PA and has tons of documents and paperwork! It has many of the original receipts (26 total) since new in a binder, original owner certi-card and owners manual in the clear jacket, stock number card with info from dealer, dealer license plate frame, original front license plate bracket still in the plastic when bought new, customer care warranty green book from dealer with owner info and purchase date of 2-2-68, warranty validation paper from the dealer and still in the drivers door jam is the warranty validation decal!!!

I just finished a very long detailed cleanup and mechanical restoration on this absolutely awesome survivor 68 Charger! The previous owner was the original owner and purchased the Charger brand new on February 2nd 1968!!! The PA title also shows the miles as original at 62,059. There are several other items documenting miles like the receipts back to 1968, PA inspection decal and oil change decal. The only added item is the newer dual exhaust from front to back and is extremely nice and sounds great! This fine Charger provides an excellent example of an all purpose car for shows, cruises and cruising!

This is hands down one of the nicest survivor Chargers that I have seen! Please understand this is not your average driver condition Charger. It is an unrestored original factory car that is in extremely nice condition!!!

I typically restore or finish around 8-10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 30 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. I do a lot of the small things with great attention to detail that most people overlook or don’t know how to fix it correctly.

PAINT, BODY AND FRAME

The body, paint and sheet metal are very straight and in extremely nice shape and all appear to be the original. The factory enamel paint has been very well taken cared of and looks absolutely beautiful!!! The only paint work I’m aware of is on the very underneath bottom side of both rockers due to stone chips. The driver’s quarter and door were blended in near the door/quarter seam due to a scratch and small dent. The trunk floor center area was also touched up due to water stain marks (did not touch any of the factory flaws or factory seam sealer). Please keep in mind that it has never had any rust repair work done. The Charger was never driven in the winter months and has never seen salt. The floor boards, doors, fenders, trunk floor and trunk extensions are all in unbelievable nice shape. You can run your fingers around every inside wheel well lip and they are absolutely spotless! Even the factory tabs are still on the lower quarters as well as the plastic factory plugs in the trunk extensions. The inside edges of both doors are absolutely spotless and look fantastic! The doors open and close with ease and the seams are excellent. I can not express how nice the door jams are! They are just incredible and the gold cadmium on the latches looks like they were just finished! The original trunk floor looks very good and you can still see the correct factory spot-welds and seam sealer. The frame is in excellent shape and the undercarriage is also very clean and neat with no rust. All in all the 52 year old paint is absolutely beautiful and by far the nicest I’ve seen for original paint!!! I did do a complete buff job on the entire car and you would honestly think that it was just painted. There are only a couple very minor flaws in the original paint and of course the factory runs on the underside of the hood, trunk lid and engine bay. There only a couple small dings on the Charger located on the very front edge of both fenders, center front very edge of hood and just above the wheel lip chrome on the passenger side (All shown in the photo link below). I am also very picky and critical, as well as honest so please do not hesitate to call me as I will crucify my own car and will do a complete walk around the car with you on the phone! Please callChadat412- 496- 1439 with any questions.

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is original date coded glass, in super good condition for factory glass! The windshield, rear glass and all the side glass is extremely nice and only has very minor marks on them. The front and rear bumpers, door handles, driver’s side remote mirror and antenna are in very nice original shape. The trim pieces are super clean and were polished for optimum shine. The front grill appears to be in very nice original condition with no cracks. The vent window chrome is also original and is in beautiful condition with no pitting or marks!

INTERIOR

The all original factory CF6 green bucket seat interior is in very nice shape and has been extremely well taken care of. Even the original carpet shows very well with little wear. There are no rips, tears or cracks in the seats, dash pad or headliner. The factory steering wheel and horn ring are excellent with no cracks or wear. The dash cluster is in remarkable condition and all factory gauges work and operate correctly. I only had to install a new dimmer switch. The factory clock will work but the seconds hand sticks off and on. All lighting works as should including the flip-up headlights, high/low beams, dome light, reverse lights, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, hood mount turn signals, four-way flashers, map light, and license plate light. The fan motor, wipers, horn, and E-brake all work. The factory thumb wheel AM radio is also working. The heater box and all under dash items are in excellent shape and the factory wiring on this car is probably the best I’ve ever seen. I also clean and check many wire connections, fuse box, fuses, bulkhead, light bulbs, sockets, switches and much more!

DRIVE TRAIN

The excellent running 318c.i. is the original numbers matching motor. It has the original factory point’s distributor and just had new points and condenser installed. This engine runs extremely smooth and very easy to drive in any given traffic condition. It has a very good idle and excellent off idle throttle response. The original 2bbl carb is part number 4421S and was replaced with a newer reconditioned 2bbl (original is included in a box). The casting date on the 318 is 1-10-68 and casting number is 2536030 and the flat ID badge below the drivers side head is PM318R 2370 1159. The 22” original factory radiator is part # 2898038 and has excellent cooling. The entire engine bay is pretty much original. Only the top half of the 318 was repainted the correct red years ago and I just did the manifolds and only painted the top lid of the air cleaner. Everything else is original paint. The Charger even still has it’s original starter and alternator!

The automatic 904 is also the original numbers matching transmission and shifts excellent through the gears and is an absolute blast to drive! The ID badge is PK2892029Y 2323 4076. The Charger has excellent drivability and cools well even in stop and go traffic. This original drive train combo runs and drives awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving.

The 8 ¾ rear-end has a 2.76 open unit with a #741 center section and checked rear-end oil. The center section and rear-end still have several of the factory paint markings still visible (more than 8)!

SUSPENSION

The front suspension has been all checked over and cleaned and only had to replace the idler arm. The front and rear brakes have been checked over and installed all new brake pads, wheel cylinders, brake flex lines, rear flex line, master cylinder and adjusted and cleaned the E-brake cables.
