** Most 1st generation DSM's found today are heavily modified for racing and have changed ownership several times. It's VERY rare to find one of these unmodified, or sale by the original owner, ith low, ostly highway miles, n good condition and well maintained...not to mention the very top-of-the-line model with all the possible factory options.

Vehicle History:

  • Single owner, nly ever driven by myself (although registered in my parent's name for insurance reasons during storage)
  • Purchased and driven in Southern Florida from college to home (the length of Florida), hich accounted for the first 50K, ostly highway miles,in a warm weather state
  • Transported by car carrier to Southern California for graduate school, gain mostly highway miles for the remaining 50K miles, n a warm weather state
  • Transported by car carrier to Illinois and stored for the past 15 years, ith regular maintenance by either a Chrysler dealership or specialized DSM mechanic
  • I always babied the car - I'm a perfectionist by nature, o never let anyone smoke or eat in the car, nd drove it conservatively
  • I kept the car for sentimental reasons since it was my first car, ought by my father who passed away.Unfortunately it's no longer practical for me to store it, nd I'd like to know it's being used by someone and seeing a second life
Repairs & Maintenance:
  • At 80K the turbo was replaced (which normally occurs around that mileage) with a new MOPAR turbo, nd the clutch was rebuilt due to normal wear.
  • At less than 500 miles ago, hen I was thinking about giving the car to my nephew, t had the following maintenance and preemptive replacements done:
    • All the accessory belts were replaced, ncluding A/, ower steering, nd alternator belts
    • Spark plugs were replaced along with a tuneup
    • Slave cylinder was replaced
    • Transmission, ransfer case, nd rear differential flush was done
    • Injector O-rings/grommets were replaced
    • Valve cover gasket was replaced
    • Drive train was replaced (didn't really need it, ut the part was available and it was recommended because they often go bad)
    • Shocks/struts and springs were replaced with high quality performance parts (couldn't find factory replacements). It rides a little stiffer now, ut should be adjustable with a knob on the shocks
    • Rotors, rake pads, nd calipers were replaced withhigh qualityperformance parts, nd brake system was bled and refilled
    • Front control arms were replaced, long with new bushings and ball joints in the control arms
    • Inner and outer tie rods were replaced
    • Battery was replaced
    • ECM was replaced
    • Front and rear wipers were replaced
    • Headlights and parking lights were replaced
    • 4 brand new Good Year Eagle GT tires (same as came from the factory), ith mounting and balancing

*The above work and parts amounted to over $3,500, hich I have the receipts for. Much of it was not totally necessary, ut I'm a stickler for safety and it was done preemptively to avoid future maintenance & repairs, nd part hunting in the future for my nephew. The work was preformed by a well-respected shop specializing in DSM repairs and performance upgrades. The shop owner noted the car was in excellent condition and had never seen an unmodified, ingle owner, st generation DSM like that before (all the cars that have come into his shop are heavily modified and have changed ownership multiple times).
I also asked what else could possibly go wrong with the car based on his experience, nd the only thing he could think of was the automatic seat-belt motors sometimes stop working. Since there was a pair available and I thought they might be hard to find later on, got those as well, o they'll be included with the car, hough they work perfectly.

Mechanical Condition:

  • Runs well, s good as it did new
  • Starts up immediately
  • Very fast acceleration
  • A compression test was performed on the engine during the recent work above with excellent results
  • Everything else in the car works perfectly: all the dashboard electronics (gauges, uttons, nobs, D/Radio, tc...) work, ower windows raise/lower, ower locks work, oth power mirrors work, eadlights pop-up,front and back wipers work (including the spray), eat and fan controls... except for the air conditioning, hich indicates is on but doesn't blow cold (needs servicing, r possibly just Freon)

InteriorCondition:

  • Near-mint condition overall
  • The headliner and visors were just professionally recovered with original fabric so are like-new (over $450 in work)
  • The dash and central console have no cuts or scratches, hough there is a uniform crack in the dashboard near the windshield, hich apparently is very common, ut not very noticeable
  • The driver's seat has some signs of wear, ith a crack/cut in the middle-back section that should be repairable with a leather repair kit
  • The passenger seat is in excellent condition
  • The back seats are like-new, nd never really sat in
  • The door panels with leather trim are also like new
  • The trunk is in great condition, nd contains the hatchback cover, nd original spare tire with jack.
  • It's very clean, nd nothing is missing (even thecigarettelighter and coin holder)
Exterior Condition:
  • There is no rust, ajor damage or accidents
  • All the windows were just professionally re-tinted two months ago with high quality film and to legal specs($380)
  • The car was also recently detailed inside and out, uring which the decals were unfortunately removed from the side trim, ut I found the original decals and they'll be included
  • The paint is original (stock), nd has oxidized and faded over the years as could be expected for a car of that age, nd it has some small paint chips and parking dings. The back bumper has spidering in the paint, s well as the front bumper to a lesser degree. There's a minor dent/scratch that runs vertically between the front fender and left edge of the driver's door that was temporarily painted over with factory matched paint (which will be included) to mostly prevent rust. These were the result of being stored on a lot with other cars (e.g., pening doors, ut not from driving accidents.I could have painted the car, owever paint jobs can range quite a bit in quality/price, nd most modified versions have specialized paint jobs, o I'm leaving that option open to the new owner's preference/taste versus passing along the cost for what might not be ideal to them.
  • The front lower bumper contains quite a few paint chips so also could use some paint, owever they're usually the first thing that gets replaced during modifications to allow for more airflow (see the link above to the upgrade guide), nd kits are sold here on eBay for around $122 (it's just a bolt-on part).
  • The wheels are the original premium alloy wheels and are straight, ut have some corrosion on them. They're usually painted or replaced during modification, o I didn't clean them up much or paint them since that also might not be desirable.
  • The wipers and antenna were just painted, nd all the wiper blades were replaced.

Extras included (but not pictured):

  • Manual, lus original dealer sticker, ales contract, nd whatever service records I can locate
  • Sunroof windscreen and storage pouch
  • An extra pair of automatic seat-belt motors and tracks (for the future - see the note above under Repairs & Maintenance)
  • An extra set of mats
  • Decals for the side-panels
  • Small can of factory matched paint

What it needs to be Perfect:

  • Paint job
  • Leather crack in driver's seat repaired
  • Air-condition serviced

Shipping Options:

  • The car can be picked up locally in the north suburbs of Chicago (Des Plaines, L)
  • Or it can be transported via an auto shipper to anywhere in the U.S. (see the Shipping and Payment tab), hich I'll try to facilitate.

About the Auction:

The car is listed with a reserve price set well below the final sale price for comparable cars recently sold. For example, comparable car recently soldhereon eBay for $6,500, ut was it was somewhat less "stock" and had fewer factory options: cloth seats instead of leather, o CD player, he bumper had been removed and the car had been re-painted solid white all-over (they were always 2-3 colors - see his brochure pictures), he sunroof was not automatic in these cars so that had to be an aftermarket add-on, he headliner and visors needed replacing (likely as a result of the aftermarket sunroof leaking), he exhaust system was replaced, he passenger window had problems rolling up, tc... It did have fewer miles, ut it was unclear from what type of driving (mine was mostly highway miles).
---------------
I tried to be as thorough as I could, s I always was with the car, ut feel free to ask if you have any questions, r would like additional photos. I'm confident this is one of the best remaining, nmodified 1st generation DSM cars available, nd sincerely hope it goes to someone who will treat it well and get lots of enjoyment from it!
